Hi all, unfortunately I feel I have to sell my 2011 Triban 3 Red due to failing health. This bike is immaculate and totally original, having covered only minimal fair-weather miles since new and it is still running on its first tyres. The spec is exactly as it left the factory and is possibly the best example of an original Triban 3 Red in the country. I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of a suitable price to ask for my bike and where would be the best place to sell it? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Roy

Pics, location, size of frame. People may have a better idea if you give more info.

I'll punt at this, it's a bit tricky, as things have moved on with later models and there's currently 500s on sale for £280 with free postage. If I recall correctly (and I may not), the cheapest it ever went for in final clearance, which was some time after the later models were out, was £250, I may be dreaming but obscure small sizes may have gone as low as £220 new (kid sizes). I'd say if truly immaculate (that would mean only say up to a few hundred dry miles, with no damage or wear at all, good storage etc), then perhaps £220 to £230 for a middle of the road size (54, 57) would be the max I'd expect to see it get but back in the day they did go for more on eBay. For a quick sale to a friend or acquaintance, I'd probably ask for less, perhaps £200. I personally don't consider them collectable, unless you're the original owner with a sentimental attachment, as they were simple functional 'get on the road' bikes, OK as a starter, or as a commuter, or training bike but a tad compromised in places (mud guard clearance, BB, brakes, wheels, saddle and groupset generally) - which is why we all enjoyed upgrading (although mine is back more standard these days and it's perfectly functional). However, if it was an upper case version, it might appeal to someone for the frame alone, as the styling has stood the test of time (we all overlooked the lower case letters and slightly naff cyclist logo below the headset on the more common version, as it was quaintly French ) but I wouldn't expect to pay over say £250 for even the upper case Italian framed variant. How you sell it is up to you, we'd allow a whole bike sale on here without the usual posting limit but it's up to the parties how they trade. All IMHO of course.

Many thanks Radchenister, much appreciated! I'd got £225 - £250 in my head so not far off. Not sure what you mean by lower/upper case versions? I suspect mine is a 'lower case' version as it has what I think is the 'slightly naff' logo on the headstock (although I find it quite appealing!)
The frame size is 45 (seat tube to BB) Location - Mid Cheshire. As for pics - no need, the bike is as it was when it came out of the box! :-)

Check the frame size on the sticker under the frame it's not the usual measurement. If it's one of the small sizes with 650c wheels I'd suspect a lower value as it's a smaller market?

Thanks Paulinblack, its a 'lower case' model as I suspected! Chas, I'm just off to check the sticker under the frame now.
Many thanks for all your help.
Kind regards

Hi all, sticker under frame says size is 54, wheels 700c x 23 so no problem in sourcing replacement tyres as and when they are needed.
I think given its condition I will be asking £225. If anyone is interested on here I would be glad to hear from you. Otherwise I will probably wait till the Spring and sell it via my local bike shop.
Thanks to all who replied to my post, the info is greatly appreciated! :-)
Kind regards

A fair price, we'll aim people here if they show up. Please come back on and bump it occasionally. Out of interest, where roughly are you based? A potential local buyer can just come along and view / collect more easily, which makes it a sweeter vfm deal - can be couriered of course but can risk issues in transit sometimes and it's more difficult if bought unseen (for instance, someone pedantic might spot a stone chip or graze that someone else might not).

I would be amazed if you manage to sell something 4 years old for 75% of what you paid for it but good luck and if you do then it shows the value of the original T3. Not that I want to sell, but I would be happy to get close to £300 for my upgraded (mix Tiagra/105 groupset and Aksium wheels) T3A. Then again it has been well used, might end up 'handing down' to my older brother to keep it in the family and get him in to cycling

I am assuming it's truly immaculate here mind, I'd expect it to look like it's never been ridden, on very close inspection (reading glasses on, close look at underside, cassette / chainset, brake blocks, expecting shiny rims, shiny chain, shiny cables etc )!

Thanks again all, location is Mid Cheshire. Radchenister, yes its all shiny, to the point of having had baby wipes on it!
I think £225 is fair, what else comparable could you buy for the money?..........

FWIW, I bought my T3 (lower case) brand new from Decathlon in July for £199. They only had the smaller sizes in (mine's a 51) but given they were that cheap brand new, I think £225 is wishful thinking to be honest.

Searching an item on eBay and selecting the 'Completed items' box usually gives a reasonable idea of current market prices. For the T3 it looks like around £150 is the going rate. Above £200 you are competinig with the later 500 models which are coming onto the second hand market
