Thanks for the heads up on this one bandit3. It almost goes past my back door. I wouldn't mind doing this one although it includes that climb from Broadhembury up over the Blackdowns which has defeated me on more than one occasion. We may be on holiday that week as its Giro time and the missus and I like a few days in Italy at that time of the year. I will have to decide nearer the time.

You would have no problems doing 70 miles , all day to do it, it's not a race

I think Greenway Lane is even worse Martin. I have driven down it and thought "thank ...... I haven't got to ride up this". It is steep and narrow with a very broken surface. Still, as Bandit says its not a race. You would have no trouble doing a 70 mile Sportive. I have done a few myself and you are younger and stronger than me. Its just a matter of pacing yourself and you usually find others who are are of a similar ability to ride along with. Let us know how you get on with Greenway Lane.

Anyone who thinks that the average Sportive is a bit soft might want to have a look at these. www.ukcyclingevents.co.uk/events/black-seriesIt's not just the distance and climbing involved, they impose a time cut off so if you don't keep up you are out

I'd be a bit peed off it I had paid Β£40 to take part and then get thrown off halfway through. I would expect a luxurious broom wagon in compensation.

bike looking very lovely in the dales sunshine - looks like a big gear to be pulling up the hills. wishing you same weather next year. great rides to look forward to in the dark and rain Thanks! That was the sunniest part of the day by far! Rain at the start and overcast for most of it! I had 42/25 on it back then and did have to get off a couple of times. Now on 42/27 which doesn't sound a lot more but I've been up some 15% to 20% lumps and while it's a grind, it's do-able!

My intention was to try the Greenway climb this morning martin122 but I took the wrong turn at Awliscombe and ended up on Stafford Hill instead. This is easier than the route up from Broadhembury but a decent climb nonetheless. I didn't have the energy to go back and start again. Perhaps next week. www.strava.com/activities/449443453

Booked to go Spain at the end of Feb for a weekend of hill climbing. Fly out Friday morning and come back Sunday night. Β£150 for flights and hotel (all inc) and then β¬45 for bike hire.
Plenty of HC's there so lots of training to do before hand.

I'm signed up for the Tour of Cambridgeshire chrono (TT) this year... not cheap, but the razamataz had me... si I'll do the sportive the day after (trip up with 2 bikes!).
Also 3 weeks later I have London-Paris in 24hrs, organising ourselves for a hospice who looked after a friends very ill father and family in his last weeks... hell of a motivator that one.
Hopefully I'll get into ride London.
But I agree a lot with @alexg - I don't like paying Β£40 to ride roads I can always ride, and get "freebies" that are either rubbish, or don't actually exist.
