Hi All. You may recall I posted about going up Ventoux this year. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. Was going to be down that way for best mates 50th Birthday. He had to change his plans and had it in Welwyn Garden City. I couldn't face a 1400 mile round trip alone to ride up the Beast,so looked for something else to do. My mother has Dementia, so I resolved to use my Triban 3 to raise some money for Dementia UK. Last friday evening, 4th sep, I got the overnight sleeper from London to Edinburgh, and spent the week riding back south to finish yesterday, 11th, at Liverpool St station, London. I stayed in Youth hostels and had an absolutely great time. We have a stunningly beautiful place in the world, and I rode through some gorgeous scenery.I met some lovely people, who were interested and supportive when they heard what I was doing. My steed was a standard Red Triban 3, the changes I made were the saddle from my oid Giant Mountain bike, a shorter stem from Decathlon, Vittoria Rubinho tyres,Crud catcher road racer 2 mudguards, which fitted perfectly but ultimately were a waste of cash as I had about 2 minutes drizzle all week, and a pannier rack from Decathlon, with bags from PedalPro for 9 pounds the pair. The bike performed admirably and I can't fault it. Yesterday, the last leg into London was done without the rack, bags and guards as spent thursday night in my own bed. We fairly flew into along the Capital, and I felt absolutely elated to finish. Not bad for a grey haired 56 year old. The Triban 3 really can make you feel like a grand tour winner. I got home, had a bath, ordered an Indian and went to my local for a couple. Woke up this morning, with loads to do, and my body said "NO". Had a very lazy day doing very little, but still have that lovely Glow.
