If I didn't have one already that would be calling to me, in fact I'm almost tempted to have two.

No, just don't !!! TBH, if it was set up for time trialing it'd have the tractor beam on me but as it isn't and I've got one, I can leave it .

... plus it's 57 and I'm on 53 (allegedly it's the right size at 57 and mine is too small at 53 ... but I like them race fit, but that's not for those who can't put there hands flat on the floor when doing the touch the toes thing, amazingly, I still can somehow ).

As I have the stealth version that descended from this beauty I shouldn't be tempted but... I noticed the receipt posted up in the pictures on the sellers page has FC5 on it (you can just make it out when you zoom in) which had me a bit anxious, but I notice BTwin also had some issues with what to call the FC range. You can see that on this page where the text refers to the FC5 (lower down) but the bike inthe picture has FC700 on the frame www.btwin.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/fc52.jpg

I've just looked at it and its in my part of the world, tempted but not too sure how I'd get on with a compact as I do spend quite a bit of time on the 39 chain wheel at present, only use the 50 on faster stretches when up to a decent speed to save my knees or downhill, I don't use the 30 much. What is the gearing on the back ? I'm still using standard 12-25 on my 500, am I right in thinking the gearing on the FC would be 11-28 and a bit easier to spin on the 50 chain wheel and would the weight difference help as its about 3kg lighter.

I wouldn't worry about the compact, essentially up front there's a climbing ring and a getting on with it ring; you can cross chain enough to stop and start in the big ring on the level if you like, you can get a lower gear to climb than you've got now on the small chain ring and a top end that's equivalent to what you'e got, it's the right set up for that bike. It's a race geometry frame type but comfy enough as used for GTs, in fact it was the team frame for AG2R for a while. If the size is right and as low mileage as it looks, then it's a fair deal at the 'take it off his hands' price (they were selling the frame alone off for circa his asking price as it got to end of line - £399 I think, I bought mine slightly used but near perfect for circa £220 delivered, if I remember right), if you can get it for less at auction, then even better but you're gambling there. Ultimately, the value is what someone will pay for it of course and I'm biased, as I'm riding one (in red), but I wouldn't sell mine for the price, my wheels are just a tad better and my groupo's not quite as good, so we're about level on spec', equal on real world performance.

I've been thinking of an upgrade for a while and at the price of £450 its well within reach, SWMBO just asked me why I'm thinking about and not buyiny it, but don't know where I'd keep it as I already have 2 hybrids in a small shed and the Triban lives in the hall of our small terrace but she said I can sell her hybrid as she doesn't use it anymore since she had a knee replacement and she doesn't go anywhere without our 6 dogs. With regards to the wheels, I have my stock 500 wheels/tyres, a new unused set of 501s/12-25 cassette / 23c Hutchinson eqinox 2s ready to put on for winter and a set of Fulcrum 7s I'm using at present which I would swap over if I buy it, just need to sort out my PayPal account with my new bank card details and may have a go for it later. Cheers for the advice, will update if I get it and no doubt will need some maintainence/care tips as a carbon bike will be something new to me.

Looks to me like it is fitted with a triple or maybe my eyes are deceiving me.

You're right - forgot they did that for a while ... now is it a 3x9 or a 3x10? Not my cup of tea for the best bike but there's the compact v triple issue sorted ! Quite like it on the winter bike though.

There's me just assuming that being 105 equipped it was a compact, will have to look at the photos a bit more closely, but a triple is fine for me.
