so i love my 500se
i use it regularly for cardio on a Wednesday night or a Saturday. My main passion is weight lifting and doing that i dont tend to get out on the bike alot.
With that said i do anywhere from 20-60 miles a week, i use strava for when i get home to check the rides etc.
What i was wondering is if its worth splashing out on the 510 to use for just such little distances? id like to push my average speeds up and cadence up, but its hard work guessing, some days i come home and think ive gone well to find its been a slow ride.
What would you suggest?

I'd suggest going for an Edge 200, check Aldi @jetsetwilly saw them at Β£49.99 yesterday.

For shorter rides phone apps can work just as well, battery life limits them going longer, I presume that's what you're using for strava now. Depending on your phone you can get heartrate and possibly speed/cadence sensors for the numbers that some find useful for training but think whether you may get a Garmin in the future as Garmins use ant+ and most phones bluetooth so they may become redundant.
