Went out for my very first ride in 30 years today, here's my steed Found an app for my phone so recorded it, gave me two options to upload it so here's the links, I'm guessing most people use strava as that seems to give more info ridewithgps.com/users/522338/activitieswww.strava.com/activities/328846843Had a few problems with the bike though and had to cut the ride short, i felt like i could have done more Not sure whats up with the bike, but it keeps slipping and jumping out of gears when i use the middle and small front cogs, using the biggest cog it was fine but was too hard for me on the hills Do i need to take the bike back to Decathlon or is it something i can fix myself, a bit of googling suggests easy adjustments but i don't know anything about setting up the gears, and i don't want to make it worse For my first ride it felt really good, can't feel my legs now though, but that was to expected as i am not very fit, but i plan on changing that

Welcome, it may be set up but I suspect only just tweaking the indexing if at all. It's probably just about learning to get better at gear selection and how to optimise the use of the drive train, by learning when to change, what level of pull when getting easier gears, what front gear to be in, mainly pre-empting your changes to suit terrain, rather than frantically changing as things go upwards, avoiding cross chaining is another aim and not changing the gears under too much load etc. That bike you've bought is the pinnacle of VFM IMO, I don't regret my last few years of progression on the uber cool original red T3 but am also convinced that life would have been more sorted with that bike as a starter - it's newbie Valhalla, simply unbelievable bang for bucks. Edit : pointers to soak up via clips added below, they're on doubles but you'll get the idea ...

Lovely bike. Makes my red T3 look a bit dated.

Must admit that the 520 does look the business - My favourite of the new models this year. The Charge Scoop complements it well.
Another two to study potentially for your gear adjustments:

Thanks for the vid's guys, i tried setting up the gears as per the videos but somehow made it worse, adjusted too many things to quickly and then i couldn't get it to change into the highest gear, and they made it look so easy Anyway my son in law is doing the london to brighton tomorrow, and he needed a few bits so we went to halfords i asked the chap there if he could take a look at the bike, i know people frown upon halfords for bike setups but he seemed quite knowledgable, and he had all the gears working again in 10 mins, didn't even charge me, nice chap and he was impressed with the bike Think i need to study the vid's a bit more before i attempt any more diy can't wait for tomorrow to get back out there again !!

Halfords!? Geepers it's either troll or newbie season ... and yep ... Halfords ... they're ace ... indexing gears is rocket science ! ... actually to be factual for around here, Yate have been totally merde over the time I've used them (I can explain why further if necessary but if things like switching products and telling you they're the same, when they're not and then not having the items in when you travel over, even after you've pre-booked them with a few days notice via on-line booking and got confirmation to pick them up is fair, then I'm a Welshman) ... now recently, I always go to Cribbs Causeway, as they actually have some real bike riders on the case there and not some slimy manager who is evasive and smudges the fact they're a bit useless or they either sold your item or fancied it for themselves! @uxb , hopefully you'll glean enough knowledge to be able to DIY it from this forum !
