Just received this from Strava. Always found Communicator unreliable but the alternative (via Garmin Express) is even more unusable. Perhaps it's the perfect opportunity to replace my aging Forerunner... ;-)
"Over the past year, Garmin has stopped supporting their Communicator plug-in. Many popular browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox) have taken steps to disable and eliminate the plug-in framework that the Communicator uses. As a result, the Communicator plug-in has become unreliable and problematic for thousands of Strava athletes.
For this reason, Strava will stop supporting the Garmin Communicator plug-in as an upload method on June 30, 2015. We encourage all Garmin users to link their Garmin Connect and Strava accounts and use Garmin Express for uploading their activities. Learn more.
Alternatively, users of some USB-compatible Garmin devices may still upload their activity files (.fit, .gpx, .tcx) directly."

I've long since given up on Garmin's on-line stuff, sometimes I still use it for route planning but that's a right old faff, as one minute it'll send to device the next it won't on my PC - I revert to a newer laptop to get around that nonsense. Uploading to Strava on my PC has been problematic but now I keep it simple ... simply hit the + button on Strava ... find the device and find the most recent file, job done. Conclusion, Garmin is totally nugget at interfacing on-line, just use it like dumb USB storage.

Agreed Radchenister. I haven't used Garmin Connect for about a year. Takes 5 seconds to upload the file.

Hmm... Not sure if I can use the Forerunner 305 as a dumb USB. Might have a bit of playing around to do this weekend.

I've always used my Garmin 200 as a removable disk, uploading directly to strava. No middle man software for me.

Garmin Express works pretty well for me. I plug in via USB, and 90% of the time Garmin Express will automatically detect the Edge and upload new activities to Connect, which then syncs to Strava. It's a zero click process. The 10% of times it doesn't work is just Garmin Express failing to auto detect, so I have to start it up manually, or refresh it if it's already open so it sees the Garmin is plugged in.
I have massive problems with my Forerunner 220, which often fails to connect to my phone via bluetooth (every other bluetooth device I own works flawlessly with my phone), and when I eventually do get it to connect it often fails to sync activities to connect. I regularly upload direct to Strava from the Forerunner, but very very rarely need to from the Edge.
Edit: I mostly use a mac, and admittedly did find Express failed more often to auto detect plugged in devices when I used my PC.

Another vote for Garmin express, works faultlessly for me (Mac version) although no need for it now that Garmin syncs straight to Strava and Ridewithgps as soon as I press the save button on my Garmin thanks to the Bluetooth link to my phone.
