Once the wind gets to a certain point I just won't bother. I weigh nothing and a strong gust is enough to have me either in a ditch or on the wrong side of the road. Fook that.

It's not going to be the best night for a PB, so hardly worth worrying too much, do what suits but if you fall off it's not my issue ! On an aside, I got hit by a vicious side gust coming past the stanchions on the old Severn Bridge two weekends back, I'm used to them as it's been happening on cars and motorbikes for years on there but this one was so vicious it almost grabbed the bars out my hands - I'm not exactly a weakling and on low profile clinchers so it was a bit of a shocker - stayed on but did a big swerve; it's down to luck whether it happens or not. That's what happened to me when I had my accident. So I am still a little nervy with wind gusts especially when flying downhill at 40+kph. Anyway to answer my own original question by looking at yr.no for my area, it looks like Thursday is the day that the wind dies down.

First ever (!) sportive on Saturday .... on 'flat and fast' East Yorkshire terrain. On Monday it was forecasting average wind speed of 11mph . Hooray methinks. ...... today it's giving average 24mph with gusts to 36mph. Oh joy. back to where it's been for the last four weeks then.
I blame it on Sepp Blatter

And as with almost all thunderstorms, they are isolated. I rode in anyhow... knowing I could dodge the storms (we've seen 1 in Reading).
