Why does anything squeak (metaphysically and philosophically speaking) ?

Could be, the squeaks are illusive and can emanate from all sorts of places, hence the question from ianmoss ; there's tales of people rebuilding entire bikes only to find it was shoes / cleats.

Hmmm never really thought that through! The shoes are fitted with SPD so I doubt the squeak could be coming from the cleat as it 'bites' into the plastic sole to keep secure, however, the screws could be loose! So will check tomorrow. As for the pedals, I've cleaned and lubed the other day, so until I ride her again, I can't rule them out. I've noticed valves seem to make a hell of a racket whilst riding. So will check them too. Hope it is my shoes to be fair!

ah... my spds squeak sometimes in the pedal, bit of grease on the cleat sorts it... until the rain washes it off again.

My Old ones squeaked too (Tongue on the upper!)
Try to find squeaks, get on your bike, and lean up against a wall with your shoulder, this will allow you to have your full weight on the bike, pedals, bars etc. You can rotate your cranks a little bit at a time, bunch up and down.
This way you can be methodical and repeatable to try to locate it. - good luck

As I mentioned in a previous post, lube the cleat and see if that helps Google 'noise from spd cleat' and you'll find it is a common cause of squeaks and noises www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=14903381

Still can't find the squeak.
Today I noticed it over jolted bumps, when pedalling with the right foot downwards stroke and turning the handlebars. Which narrows it down to the whole bike again. Not a clue.

Check your saddlebag to see if a mouse has got in it

It's only started since I added a water bottle and saddle bag. Maybe it's them! Lol

My mate yesterday developed a squeak. It was a broken carbon bottle cage, only squeaked when bottle was in with the weight. Super glued back together sorted it.

I've had terrible squeak from a bottle cage, but noticed it stopped when I took a drink, which was lucky as could have taken ages to find.

I think I've narrowed my squeak down to the jockey wheels.
