I have been having problems indexing my triban 3 rear mech, I can adjust it so that it will change gear perfectly until the 6th cog of the cassette then it hops about. I can then fix this problem but if I do that then when around 2nd or 3rd cog it starts hopping around, any suggestions on what's wrong? Thanks

When I get problems like that I often find it helps to start from scratch. undo the cable, release all tension from adjusters and start fresh. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bbk5RcH0bbQthis might help. It could also be a sign that you might need a new cable. only a couple of quid.

Poor indexing may be a sign of an excessively worn chain, if that's the case you'll probably need a new cassette as well.

Step 1.... flick the shifter until you get to the smallest cog....then leave well alone for now... Step 2 ... wind in the rear mech cable adjuster Step 3 ... loosen cable at rear mech Step 4.... work mech to check it's movement & clean it Step 5... refit cable (if in good condition, if not replace)make it so it is just taut Step 6... then click shifter up from smallest cog to the next, if it doesn't move or move clean, drop the shifter off to smallest cog again and wind the rear mech adjuster out half a turn... then repeat until the shifter/cog movement is one click....up and down...from smallest to the next cog.... then work the shifter from small to largest cog...all should be 100%
