I got an Alur 700 as a gift. However the gears shift terribly.
I spent an entire day to drive to Reading to get it fixed and they said they had adjusted it but 'because it's a double chainset it's normal to get a bit of rubbing if you are cross-chained'.
Took it home and you couldn't even shift into the big ring, and it was also rubbing in most gears.
I have contacted Decathlon online and they said 'take it back to the store'.
I said 'no, I spent a day doing that and they didn't fix it, you've had your chance, I want to take it to a LBS and you can pay the bill'. They are refusing this and just telling me to contact the store.
Any ideas how to proceed?

I feel your pain...Mine was setup terribly - I would highly recommend spending an afternoon in the sunshine watching a couple of the GCN youtube videos on adjusting the front and rear derailleurs and do it yourself. You will feel a MASSIVE sense of satisfaction and feel confident in the fact it's been done properly (plus it'll save money from going to LBS in future ) Alternatively, give the guys at Decca Birmingham a call - I know a number of guys on here have had nothing but positive experiences with them...And I was offered to be re-imbursed (as you're trying to get) from Decathlon previously for an issue I had with my T3, so this is certainly something they've offered in the past...But the guys at Birmingham generally know their stuff. Whereabouts are you located?

Ditto Oxford (which is also closer to you joneve ) P.S. And as a Swindon fan it pains me to promote anything in Oxford!

It's just a matter of having a play about with the adjustment screws with a Phillips driver. I had to adjust the front one on my T3 as wasn't shifting onto the biggest ring when I took it out on the first couple of runs. Have recently has to adjust the rear as the derailleur arm was catching on the rear spokes very slightly. When you lifted it up and spun the back wheel the knocking noise wasn't there it was only noticeable when on the bike and the spokes were flexing. I adjusted the low gear screw slightly and that stopped it and it still changes onto the biggest rear cog.

Part of becoming a real cyclist is learning to trim gears, I myself am guilty of allowing some bad grunching to take route today; my engineer mate pulled me up on it on the ride (as I'd expect from a velominati) - in my defense, it was mainly down to dodgy cross chaining via not admitting to myself I should be in the small one up front, a lack of using the trim function and also the need for a good 'clean and lube' that I'd neglected the last few rides due to diary pressures.

This is me on every single ride! Stupid ego! I'm sure I could tweak mine slightly to make them even smoother, but everything works at the minute so I'm reluctant to change. I had all intentions of a proper 'clean and lube' tonight for the first time since I bought it, but have just spent an hour trying to get the chain off - it's got a quick link, but i couldn't get it off FFS! - so I performed a cycle equivalent of a squaddie wash - degreaser on the chain and gears and wiped off the excess and re-lubed - it's come up a treat in fairness, so should get me through this week and I'll try and tackle the proper clean again on Thursday when the weather's supposed to turn.
