Hi guys
I can't stop pondering over the choices for a first road bike! I'm just looking to get into road biking instead of cruising around lakes / redways on my hybrid I'd like to do a few more faster miles.
My budget is £400 to buy a bike and a couple of required bits to kick me off (helmet for 1!!)
I'm drawn to the Btwin brand due to the write ups and I love the look of the bikes! Problem is I can't decide what to buy!
Triban 300 - but then people say a carbon fork is best which this doesn't have! Then I see Karl's on here and what a great looking bike he has!
500SE - seems to be well kitted out for £330 ?
500 - Now reduced to £350 - even more kit I assume?
Someone then pointed me towards the Calibre achieve from go outdoors which looks well speced but I'm not so sure!
Do you guys have any recommendations or other suggestions?
Thanks for any advice!!

Both the 500 and 500se I believe are both pretty good machines. I would suggest you take yourself along to Decathlon and have a good look at them in the flesh, they will let you have a wee ride around and fill you in on all the pros and cons. Quite a few here on the forum use these as bike of choice their experience and/or reservations will no doubt be along shortly.

the 500se is last year's range the 500 is this year's
only real difference between them is the forks.
the calibre looks good. - but has less range of gears if you live somewhere hilly.
welcome to the forum and happy shopping.

Thanks chaps. I'm in Milton Keynes so no, not particularly hilly at all! The Calibre looks good on paper but it doesn't look classy like the B'Twin range. Also being in MK a decathlon store is a fair distance away!
Bloody decisions!

The 500 reduced to £350 is last year's model with full Sora groupset, if you can find one in your size snap up an absolute bargain

I think I'd like to find an original T3 but getting one in a 54cm which I think j need is proving hard work!
Might have to bite the bullet and pick one of the new Tribans

Obviously if they have a 500 in your size then buy that, the sora groupset is proven and reliable. However, I've had my microshift gears set up correctly and they outshift my friend tiagra's, being precise and immediate.
Honestly, you, and everyone will not be able to believe it's only worth £330
