I still have the stock triple on but I think for me the only problem with the T3 is the gear ratios. I have the 11-28 PG850 on the back and the intervals are a bit big which makes finding a nice cadence a bit tricky at times. Maybe I need to make more use of the middle ring before changing up at the front.
What have you got on the T3 in terms of cassette Rob?

Might go to an 11-23 if I spot a cheap one, also consisting a 52 big ring, I assume that works as ultegra triple were made like that.

Anyone know if the 52 ring and keeping the 30 granny will work with the standard sora front mech? In looking at you chas !

Should be ok if you lift it up a bit and check your chain length. My winter bike works fine with 30/39/53 rings using a Tiagra triple front mech. It's 8s and I use it with a 13/26 cassette which gives nice close ratios and all the range I need. The possible problems are the chain going loose or rubbing on the bottom of the front mech on a small/small combination which you shouldn't really use anyway.

Excellent thanks chas, I'm on a 11-25 cassette, so small small might be a problem, but I can't see why I'd use that, and I'd soon find out - I'm probably helped by having the long cage rear mech (not intentionally, just what my 2nd hand groupset came with - and sora front as it was the wrong band size - that one is on my steel bike). My chain is nearing a replacement, so I'll try and source a 52 ring and do both at once so I can get chain length right.

Excellent. So far I've failed to get a cheap one, But I've not felt limited by my gearing either (I never got to 50/11 in my 27:18)... that said, their are other courses coming up with more descent where it would be possible to.
