On the tape front, I've had various cheap and expensive ones now, not a lot in it all IMO - don't like the really fleecy Fizik stuff as it gets a bit wet dog minging after a while. It's a bit like buying shoes really; I will add some cushioning under on the hoods for my next set, as planning some rough riding - nothing fancy, will conjure something up from stuff we have in the craft / modelling drawer and wrap it in something thickish. Currently running No.1 on previous page on T3 (moderately thick, grippy, mat finish - pretty good) and Mistral on other bike (glossy finish, Deda text, perforations, thinner, slicker - fine with grippy gloves, slippy under the fleecy ones that I like to use on dry cold days) - prefer the cheap stuff on the T3 when in use TBH but the other stuff looks slicker. Might try some gel at some point but suspect it's no great shakes in a back to back with the thicker cork style when in use. Original Decathlon stuff was actually pretty good as well.

cool - was wondering whether to get the 3mm fizik stuff. Tbh the main reason to retape is the brake lever isnt aligned exactly square so I thought I'd take the opportunity to realign that at the same time and bling things up a little

Don't think there's much wrong with the Fizik stuff generally, or the fleecy stuff if changed regularly, just it's acloth style material so obviously deteriorates more than other more plastic / rubber type materials. Nicest stuff I've had so far was 3T.

I actually wrapped rather well spread the T3 hoods + tops with the old a bit dog eared tape (that had come of in 2 big enough pieces) under the new lot (deda tape) and that's worked a charm, nice and comfy on roads with a surface almost as bad as Belgian cobbles. Might not be perfect practice, but works for me.

The Fizik is very comfortable and very grippy.

If on the cheap, I put the stuff they sell in Wilkinson's on my steel bike, and it's really quite nice, reasonably well cushioned and wrapped nicely. Was a bit of a shock. It's dearer than the cheapest you find Deda for, but not if you have to pay postage and are anywhere near a Wilko.

How well does it last in terms of durability? It's very tough, with a textured finish so it doesn't mark easily. It's a bit more difficult to install on the bars as it has real stitching on it so it's not as pliable as other tapes. Slow and surely, pay attention and it looks great.

Could get three lots of Deda though - horses for courses again, now for me, if it's new cassette and whack something else on the order, then it's likely a cheaper option, it it's a buy it 'cause you really need it job, then maybe something nicer ... it is spring, something nice may be in order .

I agree, that's why I've had a few lots of cheaper, not to say they are no good. I've got the Fizik for the extra cushioning to help with hand pain after a couple of hours. (it has helped)
