Hi, I want to change the bar tape and the stem on my T7. Bar tape - I fancy more cushioned stuff, and a change of colour to red. What's the brand to go for? Dont want anything that requires mountains of cleaning. stem - I think I need to shorten the stem to get a more relaxed ride, I'm not over-reaching, but I could be comfier. Are they much of a muchness? I've seen deda mentioned a lot. Advice welcomed Cheers Len

I haven't changed my bar tape yet so can't recommend anything there but the Deda Zero stems are excellent value and look quite good.

Yep, the Deda Zero stems look great and can be had very cheap. I've just put this Deda tape on the for the first time and it actually feels pretty good. The last lot was from the Deca and was fine, rode most of the time without gloves no problem.

chas - in order to fit the T7 bars do i need these dimensions?: 1"1/8 (28.6 mm) steering and oversize handlebars (31.8 mm). and would the deda fit if it was: Γ Handlebar: 31,7 mm Fork Steerer: 1" 1/8 (28,6mm) New to this, so just asking questions

chas will most likely answer yes but I'll let him confirm actual dimensions . Although I can report that I too pondered the on paper 0.1mm difference on the Deda clamp and bar diameter for a short while when fitting mine, then just fitted it, so can confirm the on paper tolerance differences are in fact unnoticeable, so fine to use it.

Given the t7 stem is 110mm and I want a more relaxed ride, would you recommend a 100 or 90mm stem? I'm wondering how much that increment affects riding position.

Yes 31.8 is the bar size, not sure where Deda get 31.7 from (maybe they use a different conversion from Imperial) but as @radchinester has confirmed it's fine (I've also used Deda stems on other 31.8 bars)

It's surprising the difference 10mm makes, so unless you are after a big change I'd try 100 first, hard to advise without seeing you on the bike though. Can you borrow a stem from anyone?

My experience : On the T3 I've been through 100 angled down, 120, 80, 90, 100 angled up. 120 ok for fast hours but too much in terms of lack of comfort for 4 or 5 hours, 80 was so short I clipped my knees at times climbing, 90 angles down or 100 angled up suited me but it's personal to you, depending on physiology, seat height, hoods, bar angle etc. Handling a little slower longer than shorter.

I would mirror this. I went form a 110 to a 90 and was amazed at how much shorter at was. I went to 100 and am much happier with it.
