Hi all,
I am really hoping someone out there can help me.
I bought a triban 3 last year secondhand. The previous owner had changed the front chainset to a double from the standard triple. This has been fine for me over last autumn. However, I deciced that over the winter I would convert it back to a triple.
The only thing he changed was the chainset. The shifter and derailleur have remained original.
For what I am hoping will be simplicity for me, I have not gone with the standard triple and have bought a Shimano Tiagra 4603 triple 10sp so that I did not need to change the bottom bracket. Chain Reaction have told me this will be absolutely fine and if I use a 9sp chain I willnot have any problems at either end. Sure enough it slipped in perfectly. However, when I have gone to adjust the front derailleur it does not seem to come out far enough for the biggest ring (I have been told by a mechanic that it is the orignal triple. Not sure if iti is original but it is a triple). It will take the chain on to the ring and keep it there, however, I am getting a lot of chain rub no matter what ring I am in on the back casette.
I know I am running a 10spd with an 8 speed cassette. I have been told this will be fine with a 9sp chain and some have said that the 8sp casette will actually run better with a 9sp chain.
Do I need to change the derailleur??..... I have no idea of what the original spec was.
Will the chain be making a difference??.....
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.
