Shame it's misleading, confusing the 500 with the 520/540.... But proves the need for such an article in the first place?

Agreed, it would be better to have kept the 300 as the original Triban frame and the 500 the new frame but the 500se has continued from last year and is the best seller so I can understand the desire for continuity.

It's great to see the tyre clearances on the new Triban 520/540 frame as well as the mounts on the front forks for low rider pannier racks.
The ability to use wider tyres make these bikes ideal for lightweight touring. The front panniers would also spread the load and take weight off the rear wheel.

No specific knowledge Dave but they're the same size headset so should fit the frame but they're going to be longer with the extra clearance so will slow up the steering. I'll measure them later and let you know how much.

Very rough measurements axle to crown I make the T500 372mm and the T520 382mm so I don't think 10mm would have a significant effect on the steering. I've done a similar thing with my (non Triban) winter bike. It was originally my 'best' bike with (again roughly) 365mm forks (no room at all for guards), I had a spare set of 400mm cx forks after upgrading so thought I'd try it out. Loads of clearance and not too bad to ride but certainly not 'right'. I've since got some 375mm 'winter' carbon forks with eyes and it's much improved. As it was a bit tight at the back as well I've put some packing in the rear dropouts (a few layers of aluminium tape) which has helped to level things up. There are a couple of other minor issues with it which make replacing it with a T520 a very appealing idea, but then a new cyclocross bike for the upcoming season would also be good, or if I join the track league instead this winter some better wheels............

That sounds like it might be worth a go then, Chas. Thanks a lot for the information. Have you any idea on the price?
