Power data to approximately 10 - 20% accuracy for Β£5, that's better than a few hundred. Need to see it in use.

On today's ride I was weighing up where I could mount my S3 on the bike. My pedalling would definitely have me knocking it with my knees if it was on the stem or bars so I will be on the lookout for an out front type mount.
ipBike is where its at for a smartphone cycle computer the guys in my clubs say.

I've had ipBike on already after pointed at it by @billyadam but no connectivity so booted it back off - as you know, I'm 50-50 on whether this stuff is actually all that necessary but it's fun and keeps us interested, so what the hell, I'm going for the dongle this weekend (and the mini usb connector) - whether it'll work on the HTC is yet to be determined but it's Android so hopefully it should.

Radchenister been mooching at different Android cycling applications tonight. The Wahoo Fitness one seems a good candidate and a test confirms that its quite happy to work with my other brand Bluetooth 4.0 sensors so is not locked down to Wahoo sensors. Will be trying it out tomorrow on a real ride...

Will be trying it out tomorrow on a real ride... I tried this app a few months back and it kept crashing or locking up so I gave up with it. Shame really as it worked great on the turbo with the BT speed cadence sensor. I presume from your experiences it has been fixed now so may give it another go.

Need to separate out websites, app's and hardware really when discussing this. Strava is a data comparison site, mainly for checking how you compare / being sociable with piers, it also logs more details like HR, power etc. Garmin Connect has similar functionality but is not so sociable. VV is another way to crunch Strava data but just started charging etc. Ant+ do hardware / software products aligned with Garmin, Bluetooth isn't necessarily aligned with anyone in particular and the various other applications are likely produced by independents. Garmin and Strava are the big players who have a pact (they're able to be interconnected now), both will charge as much dosh as they think they can shoehorn out the punters, Garmin via selling hardware, Strava via subscriptions and selling vanity products like fondo shirts ( ). The punters start out just into basic information but this may escalate, that's where the business opportunity kicks in ; personally, I'm mildly into the information but only at the right price. Lots of people stand by training with HR, others will swear by power, paying silly money to acquire this information is daft though IMO, particularly when you have an expensive smartphone. With the phone you have an opportunity to swerve around the pitfalls that come with the expensive branded products, if you can get the compatibility thing sorted. Hopefully that explains the situation ?

Still waiting for someone to bang out strain gauge / power meters for Β£30 though - it may happen yet.

It does if you power down the screen, not so good if left on.

Well I've just purchased an Ant+ dongle and mini usb adaptor, and reloaded ipBike - we'll see if I can get them all linked up when they arrive.

Anybody care to post battery usage figures please? The screen being permanently on will have a massive effect. I've found my Bluetooth heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensors to have negligible effect on battery life but at some point I'd like these figures live in front of me rather than to review after a ride. Well, some suggestions: 1) after 2.5 years I bought a new battery (20eur. but big point) 2) I use Runtastic bike pro, so I can turn data off (you can download maps you will need) 2b) strava off I'll upload the .gpx file, 3) bluetooth and everything else off, just GPS on 4) some android tricks (disable animations, etc.) www.techrepublic.com/article/10-tips-for-improving-android-battery-life/4) disable/unistall every app that run in background sucking battery you see it in "app setup" > "running" (facebook, twitter, etc.) 5) monitor luminosity about 40/100, not auto detection, nor always on, use right button to turn on/off 6) On training I also use a 50eur cyclocomputer (for cadence, velocity, heart rate, bpm areas) no ant+. In the city just cell for navigation maps (runtastic, endomondo, strava or sometimes a real car nav like waze), sometimes Internet to find places, shops, etc. and to phone. 7) If you do photo it is a big battery use (but a nice one) music always on, I can use it for 5-6 hours and I've 30% battery level when back home ...galaxy S5's battery life is 2-3 times S3 (real test)
