Still waiting for someone to bang out strain gauge / power meters for Β£30 though - it may happen yet. I have a friend who is into robotics, he reckons the parts would cost about 40 quid, It could be mounted with gaffer tape to left hand crank arm. It's getting the software working into an app that's presentable to the user that's the expense.

They make hubs, cranks, pedals and with their size if they brought out a unit around the Β£100 - Β£150 price point, SRM, Powertap, Stages etc would be disapear overnight.

They probably have a deal with stages as it requires a crank arm at the manufacturing stage. FSA and Sram have followed around a year later suggests Shimano exclusivity expired.
Kickstarter anyone?
