Thought I better get round to posting up some pics of my new bike - although I have only been out on it the once to date am planning on getting some slightly better rolling tyres than the stock 35's which are very nobbly and although great off road were a bit of an effort on the road parts.
As I've just bought a house that backs right onto the canal network and am not to far from Cannock Chase I fancied having a bit more of an off road experience without going down the whole hog MTB route. It also put off my yearning to buy a new road bike (for now at least) and then find I mothballed it for 5 months in the winter weather.
Had looked at getting a 2nd hand CX bike but was still looking at £600 + it seemed and as a couple of the bods I ride with had gone for these thought I would give them a go.
Bought it on a Halfords 10% off weekend so the £899.99 price dropped off to £809.99. Then joined British Cycling (£18 for the year) for another 10% off making it £728.99. Having gone through Topcashback to reserve it online this gave me another £25.51 off (which has just been paid) making it £703.48. Then when I went into Halford to pick it up I paid with my CC linked to my Quidco account which gave me another £18 back making the grand total of £685.48 (excluding the BC membership costs)
So happy with that all in.
And here it is:
Not convinced by the extra set of brakes on the front - Makes fitting light brackets awkward so have had to go on plan B for that and the 1 time I have rode it used them very rarely - may come in more useful as I progress and get used to them I suppose.
Hefty BB though the weld is 'industrial' shall we say
Disc brakes - well they definitely make you stop (and no muck to clean off the rims) but yet something else I will have to learn how to service
Groupset is SRAM which took/is going to take some getting used to - Kept finding the double tap levers a bit of a pain as press a bit to hard and you find yourself going the wrong way up the cassette that you are trying to go down. A couple of time I found going up inclines when I wanted to make the peddaling easier I inadvertently made it harder - sheesh what an amateur!
Helpful hollow just so you can bring a wedge of that lovely mud home with you - how nice
