A little off piste, but as my CW scheme has now expired, I'm thinking of getting a hardtail MTB to replace my ageing and totally rigid 1995 Claud Butler (depending on OH and how close to S=1 I am, although the CB will have to go)
The older rockrider 8.1 looks best value sub Β£500 and there still seems to be lots of stock, but does anyone have any experience of it, or indeed any of the other B'Twin MTBs. And what approximate size would I need being 5'11 (my T5a is a 57) - although I will go and try it before ordering..
tia!

It handles well, is reasonably light but tough enough to take the abuse you will almost certainly throw at it. Glowing review here: www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/mountain-bikes/product/review-decathlon-rockrider-8-1-10-39599/(Bike in the review has a slightly different spec' to the one I have, but most comments apply.) Good points: RockShox Reconn front fork, SRAM X7 gearset, SPD pedals Less good (but not necessarily bad) points: Avid Elixir brakes - nothing wrong with these as such, but they are a bugger to service, haven't managed to drain them myself yet without ending up at LBS. I'm also 5'11 and on a 57 T3A and have the large frame 8.1, so guess that would be fine. I spent ages searching for the best value hardtail in the Β£500 and genuinely couldn't find anyything better than the 8.1 at the time.
