It's £330 though. Calling it £299 and then adding thirty quid "set up" charge doesn't make it less so. I can see a delivery charge of £29.99 if you don't want to buy in store. Can you please link to the set up charge you mention? They explain the delivery charge on their website as a "set-up" fee. There's only one store to visit, so it's essentially £330 for all but those in the northwest within a driveable radius.

It's a carriage charge. Add one to basket and have a look at the basket - it will have added £29.99 as carriage to the order.

That's how I understand it and how I read it on the Merlin website, Deano. I also added one to my basket to check it out. I wanted to clarify the validity of the "set up" charge info that arthur posted (below) for Merlin's benefit. I've shopped there in person before and they are very good to deal with. It's £330 though. Calling it £299 and then adding thirty quid "set up" charge doesn't make it less so. and They explain the delivery charge on their website as a "set-up" fee.

Halfords really need to step up their game. was in Halfords today buying a saddle bag and all the road bikes on show were budget bikes with shimano tourney & claris. If I was dropping 750+ quid on a bike I would at least like to look at it!.

I woke up last night dreaming about this bike. Could it be an omen? Halfords have been saying for a while that they are taking the premium bike market more seriously. This 13 model offers a lot of bang for your bucks, especially if you get the 10% discount offered to British Cycling members. I do believe that they are upping their game. Certainly the guys I have met in my local branch are very helpful and know what they are doing. Sorry Deca - my nearest store is at least 150 miles away (the Nempnett Thrubwell branch has still not been completed)so I cannot offer any experience of their service.

some halfords stores are great - mine is - very helpful staff, always use them for cables and stuff - they always charge me the online rather than the store price.
not sure this 13 range offers much at the bottom of the market. the cheapest at 500 quid is claris groupset 2x8, only bonus is aero brakes- fiddly to adjust? id save 200 and get either the merlin or the t300 tbh.

Agreed. The 13 Intuition Beta is certainly not a budget bike but for someone wishing to move up and go "carbon" this must be a contender for the money. The spec includes semi carbon aero wheels which I have not seen in this price range. I am certainly looking forward to seeing one in the metal (or carbon in this case).

Looks like I might have dreamt Merlin describing the delivery charge as "set-up". However the point remains. It's not really a £299 bike if only a very small proportion of people can actually get it for that price.

13 is a strange number to call a bike range. Stay lucky out there..!! It's the upside down number logo trick, makes people wonder why, or they can show off that they already know; it's referencing what racers are supposed to do due to peloton etiquette and superstition - linking the brand / bike culture / race heritage ... they obviously have a wannabe Velominati come race hipster in the branding dept.

Ah right. That explains things. Can't they just put 11A on them like they do with houses?

Mail order Deca bikes have a delivery charge (was £15 in 2012 when I got mine) and it came boxed from France to a depot somewhere in the midlands / north-ish (can't recall where) and then shipped to me, so we're now comparing delivery charges really - could have earned £30 in the time I've spent on here this morning !

Free delivery online for bikes now (over £70) from Decathlon, they used to be sent out from stores and there is still a £15 charge if you buy instore and want it delivered. You can now also 'click and collect' as well if your local store doesn't stock something you've seen online.
