I'll package it differently, do people seriously believe it's the bike that is the key factor, or is improving the engine that's moving it all the main place to work on for gains? That's better. Yeah, the bike is a small increment in a chain of bigger ones - some of it's benefit will be direct - stiffness and lightness, and some (so far I would say more, but its impossible to prove anyhow) is psychological - I feel more confident on the Rose because it is a little more composed - that doesn't really mean I'm physically able to go faster on it than the T3, but mentally, I am.

I am with Radchenister on this one. its 90% you, 10% your bike. I'd be amazed if it was as much as 10% bike.

I'm sending my new frame back, I'm only mid table up Frocester Hill, there's something wrong with it ! I'll make you an offer Rad.

Minor aside, I camped at a place at the top of Frocester Hill over the summer. As I was driving up it (it's a beast!), I was wondering if I'd know anyone daft enough to try cycling up it. Turns out I do!
Kudos, Rad, kudos!
As for the bike v engine v stats thing, I've got a pb on Strava from last winter when I'd been back on a bike for no more than a month and was on my ancient hybrid (flat pedals, and semi-nobbly tyres). I still can't seem to get near it despite doing the same segment most weeks. Either I was at the front of a hurricane, or I should've tapped off a litre or two of blood from that day for later use.
As for the original post - no offence taken or offered from me. However, personally I think I need to do a lot more work on the engine before I need to worry about a faster bike. Good looking thing though, given.

Frocester (rhymes with Gloster, as you pronounce the 'ces' as an 's') is a proper serious hill, I'll be tackling it more over the winter, as hill training is the way ahead - I'll be aiming to get lighter and hopefully climb up the table gradually; also need to get back at the Gospel Pass and The Tumble - I'll be on the T3 at times, don't think the extra kilo will do any harm !

I do dearly want a light bike, but I've made a pact with myself that a proper training regime and going up hills on my "heavy" Triban can only be of benefit eventually. Come March we'll see if an increase in pace has taken place and I might treat myself.
(Incidentally I got my gear cables changed and my bike feels as new again, so it might just be the honeymoon phase kicking in)
back to the original post - nice bike!

I just reminded myself of a recent visit to the local bike shop "i'd like to talk to you about getting a better/newer bike!" shop person "certainly, this is the BRAND bike with shimano 105" me "oh lovely. could you tell me what the steps are like between the sora i've got and the tiagra, the 105 and then the ultegra" shop person "well...once you're off the bottom rung it's all the same really. it's just lighter and/or crisper shifting"
i deduced i was talking to a junior member of staff who hadn't been versed in the hard sale!

I don't think I will ever buy a compete bike again. I am still in the learning a growing phase but my next bike is going to build up for parts that I will pick. I currently liking the look of beam bikes...time will tell.
I hate the idea of getting a "name" bike. I like btwin for being an underdog brand. like not seeing loads of them kicking about. When I did my Tri 90% of the bikes were of only a handful of brands. liked being the only Triban.
Also I now wished i went for the cheaper t300 so I could get the joy of upgrading to an aftermarket carbon fork later.

Give me a shout when you start doing this, as I need focus over the winter for the triathlon season next year and doing Frocester more will no doubt help!

It's a hill interval all of its own, we could drop down the back and climb back over again - legs will hurt a bit after that, mine know they've had a workout at the mo'.

I'd be up for that challenge! Can't promise I'd make it, but I'd give it a jolly good go! Maybe not right now though. No riding for 8 weeks has probably lost me any (little) climbing strength I may have had
