I was thinking about upgrading my Triban to 105 also. Mainly because of a grinding noise on the font derailleur when I push hard. However now I've heard that this problem isn't down to the gears but the frame flexing.
(I read elsewhere on a triban 520 review... "When riding hard out of the saddle I did detect some slight flex in the frame, which resulted in the front derailleur rubbing a little")
tell me richc.....do you have any problem with chain rub on the front derailleur when you push hard with the 105 ? did you have that problem with Sora ?
(bike looks great by the way.nice one)

My FSA Gossamer chainset ha a bit of flex in it that causes a bit of rub on the drive side when hard out of the saddle but I know my own FD isn't set up perfectly either so could be a non issue once sorted.

Also the original bottom bracket isn't the best.
All frames and components will flex to a degree, it's a trade off against weight/cost but the Triban frames are quite stiff/not the lightest - well suited to their intended purpose/market.

I have never had a chain rub problem with the 105, I did have more 'adjustment' problems with the Sora but that was more to do with it being a triple rather than the double 105. The frame is pretty stiff and it would take legs a lot stronger than mine to flex the frame.

@robert that groupset has a braze on front derailleur so remember to get a braze on adaptor too. Interesting that Evans are listing it as clearance?

Thanks for responses. .... I'll go for 105's double, simpler adjustment, simpler life.

With some time to kill this afternoon I made the (executive) decision to get the T3 ready for it's forthcoming groupset. (I've been informed new stuff will be delivered shortly after the 10th.) Wee glimpse of sun so it turned out to be an outside job. No real problems, used tools from Aldi kit and a few of my own. T3 all sorted and waiting in the shed, not it's usual resting place but at least it will have company. Isn't it amazing just how light the stripped down bike feels?!
