I spent a few evenings last week upgrading my existing kit which was Sora crankset, front & rear derailleurs, 2300 levers, B'twin brakes and Sram chain & cassette, to a full 105 11 speed from Ribble. I did some weighting for those that are interested and the 105 is a whole 311gms (ish) lighter than the previous kit. The crankset, front & rear derailleurs, BB, and chain were all lighter but the brakes, cassette and levers are heavier. Fitting was pretty straight forward, with a few checks on the GCN videos when I was unsure. And all done with an Aldi tool kit and bike stand! Took it out for a test ride today and I am impressed, the hoods are very comfortable and levers feel just in the right place even though I haven't adjusted the reach yet for my small hands. The brakes are vast improvement on the B'Twins, real finger tip stuff to come to a halt. The gear changes are light, quick and mostly silent, Swopping the front cogs is like pressing a switch. You seem to have a endless supply of gears. Am I a happy bunny? Yes. Will it make me faster? Probably not. I am glad to be rid of the thumb shifters? Definitely. Will I get away with buying anything else cycling related this side of Christmas? No.

I bought the same groupset from the same supplier and agree with you regarding the brakes. Glad I had my shades on today as I reckon I would have lost my eyeballs when I applied the brakes after the first steep descent! What cassette ratio did you get? I went for the 11-32.

Looks great, I prefer the silver to the black.
I'm seriously thinking about this groupset, however i'm going to research the compatibility of 11spd on wheels. can't really afford to be getting another set of wheels as well.
Other options would be to go 10spd 5700 or Ultegra and buy in individual bits when bargains arise! (you all know how tight I am!)

Cheers for the pics. I think I'll go for black when the time comes.

Looks lovely. I changed early this year to 10 speed compact (mix tiagra and 105) from stock triple and love the change. Find compact much more user friendly and smoother changes. However this does go to show that anyone who changes groupset to 'save weight' must have more money than sense. Overall weight saving was what...about half a bottle! Many other advantages no doubt though.

I went for the 11-28, the bottom end is about the same as my previous set up but I should have more speed top end, if I can pedal hard enough

Mine wheels are Fulcrum racing 7s the 2013 model (that Wiggle were selling off earlier this year with the tyre and tube bundle, another bargain I saw on here! I can't work out if this forum is saving me money or costing me money). Anyway another great improvement over the stock items.

I have 35mm 501 at the moment, far better than stick rims for the bargain price, will upgrade to something better but may have a new bike by then!

I've gone with 105 5800 on my new custom build Genesis Croix de Fer. I'm still keeping my T3 for the time being though.

My "summer" bike (Cannondale) has the 105 5800 11 speed and yes I agree brakes, and gear changes are so much nicer/better than the T3's Microshift, waiting for winter to go away is not easy.....

I had to put a new Sora chainset on mine at the weekend due to the old one being so worn out. My intention was to go down the 105 5800 route but not until the Spring. After taking the summer bike with full Ultegra out on Sunday for the first time all i can say is wow - the braking and shifting is something else. Can't wait to put 105 on the Triban.
