My mate has a set of fulcrum 5's which I may be able to get off him, but they're made for 10/11 speed cassettes. Is it possible to get the spacers to make these compatible with 8 speed?

They should come with a spacer to use with 8/9/10

Yes! My racing 7s came with said spacer (it fits on before the cassette), but they can be sourced from fleabay or more reputable places.

Cheers gents. chas - these were from his old bike, he kept the wheels, but uses the stock wheels on his pimp Carbon Cube that he uses, so I don't think he has the spacers. But good to know I can get a spacer for them..I'll see what he says

If I can source a spacer in the next week or two, I'm going to be test driving them at the Mendips Sportive. That should be fun! EDIT: Are the spacers universal? or different for each wheel brand /wheelnoob

The spacers I can only assume will be universal by wheel, but different for shimano/campy hubs as they are splined.

Yea, I assumed they would be different for different freehubs...This is a shimano freehub, so should be fine. But cannot seem to find anything that definitely says that the spacer will allow conversion from 10/11 speed to 8 speed cassette.

10 speed and 8 speed are the same size. 11 is bigger. I think its either a 1.8mm or 1.85mm spacer you need, seemed some debate but I guess they are so close it wouldn't matter.

When you say "10 speed and 8 speed are the same size", do you mean the cassettes or the spacers? Such a massive noob! Sorry!
If the cassettes, I think I know what you mean now...He used a spacer on the wheel for his 10-speed cassette, so I assume I would just be able to swap out the cassettes and it would be good to go (with a bit of tweaking to get the indexing jut right)?

I believe that is what rob is saying, a 10 speed and 8 speed cassette are the same width, 10 speed just crams in more gears to the same space (I believe from reading about, i'm not 100% sure).
Redchen would be the guy to ask as he's just fitted some fulcrum 5's - I'm unsure what cassette size he's running but he'd still probably be able to tell you.

Yea, I thought that was what he was getting at and would make sense as 10 speed chains are narrower. Just wanted to clarify. Cheers gents.

yep... when I did my racing 7s, the indexing didn't even need changing. so as long as you still have his spacer you should be good to go after checking the indexing.

Cheers r0b1et. So I basically just need a standard cassette spacer. Happy days! Unfortunately he uses his spacer on his current wheels - which is odd, so I'll have to source one from somewhere. Now I need to persuade him to sell them to me after I've had a bash with them. EDIT: Radchenister don't suppose you've got a spare spacer lying around that I could trade for a bottle of ale?

if he's running a 10s, then use his spacer!
