So today was the day I took my little machine to Decca for her 3 month service. I originally only wanted them yo true my front wheel due to beccoming a bit wobbly on Sundays Sky Ride but decca preferred to do a full service, skeptical as it was suppose to be a 6 month service which worked out better ssurely which I did mention to the workshop who simply said just being it back if anything goes in that time. Not so bad from reading this if anything it sounds like they've gone the extra mile and offered a whole service instead of a trueing of one wheel. This is where my annoyance is justified I was told the wheel can not be trued any more even though it wobbles and causes the bike to bunny hop whilst braking and that they will need to keep the bike for a week whilst it is serviced and they could jot simply make me an appointment for a service I was left with a have it serviced or don't scenario. What have others experiences with the free service like did they keep your bike as long or do I have a right to feel annoyed.

My free service was crap. They didn't fix the one single niggle I had with the bike and they did have it for a few days.

Seems a lot of LBS are busy, 2 days to replace a spoke ... CRC would prolly have it a week for that, good time to open a LBS if you know a lot about them

Decca Reading did my free service when I turned up to book it... but really they just tightened the cables and checked things were tight/running true - all things I'd have done myself. Took then less than an hour... while I oggled stuff I wanted and couldn't afford and then went to eat a mcFlurry.

I have had great service from Reading, they upgraded my front derailleur on my t3a to a Shimano Sora free of charge, replaced the triple chain set free of charge as a couple of teeth snapped. The bar tape was replaced poorly but I changed that anyway as it was not as good as the original. Yes they did keep the bike for 5 days each time but where else do you get such a good quibble free service?

Every time i've taken mine in they've stopped what they are doing to help out,. Ive only had to leave it with them a couple of times, once over night while they swapped the shifters for me ( i did take it in at night) and once in a morning and it was ready by lunch time. Thinking of taking it fairly soon as they need to have a look at the headset for me, while it's in i might get them to give it a bit of a service.

You could all just Rule #5 it and learn how to fix it yourselves ? Why do something yourself and pay for it when its under warranty? Odd reply Rads. But perhaps your just being argumental as usual ; )

...or perhaps I just view self sufficiency as a trait worth having and want to avoid 3hrs in the car for every little issue. Maybe I have a mechanical empathy that means I value my bike in a way that means it gets a cleaning, servicing and maintenance regime that ensures it manages 1000s of hard miles well. A well maintained bike is a pleasure to use, knowing how it all operates inside out and being able to work in harmony with it as an extension of your own biological system is part of cycling IMO but as you don't appreciate my view, you can package it as argumentative if it's convenient for you . Of course, forums are for communal whinging - I obviously don't fit in on t'internet with my left field views. Once GB was a nation where we built jet planes in sheds, just for fun, times have changed .

You have big problems in my opinion. Nobody said they didn't do their own servicing or maintenance. My bike is very well maintained thankyou and serviced by myself. Don't assume everything and get off your highand mighty horse once in a wwhile. Right enough said from me, you can carry on with your opinions Rads but I have said all I need thank you.
