Hi,
I am a newbie and am looking to purchase my first road bike. Have been riding a hybrid to date.
i am looking to purchase a Triban 500, when they eventually come into stock. Based on other bikes I tried at Decathalon, both a frame size of 54cm and 57cm seemed to be ok.
I'm no expert, but is there any rule of thumb to either go for the smaller frame size or go larger frame size? Or does it not make much difference and it just comes down to personal preference.
I'd be happy for any advice.

They are nice bikes, and I'm sure you will be happy with it. I'm 5ft 11.5, long torso, short legs and shared the sizing Dilema! (57 or 60?). My OPINION is, Bike Fitting at this end of the market is more Art than Science. If you are happy with a 54 & a 57, either will probably be OK! Tinkering with the seat post, saddle, stem and handlebars could probably get you very similar "points of contact" with both frame sizes. BUT my current gut feeling is that erring on the smaller size is a safer choice. Oh, & I'm about to sell my 5A (60) and keep the Triban 7 (57) that I found on eBay. For me the smaller size seems to feel better, but we all differ..............

Hi, frame size depends on your overall measures such as inseam, torso, arms lenght etc. etc. you can see what suggest to you the canyon online configurator for roadbikes www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3191# -> "frame size" -> "I would like to determine my ideal frame size" geometry of roadlight is quite similar to triban the fast answer: an old rule was "the size up for racing the size down for confort" but...
