Hi All I would like to do a two day road bike tour of the Peak District. Over night at a bed&breakfast. Would like to cover 50 to 100 miles in the two days. I would love to have some help with suggestions, experience or tips with the planning. Time will be in August 2014.

My suggestion would be to just do the hundred miles in a day and save the cost of a B&B. That way you are not tied into going on a specific date should it rain or lose your deposit. There are plenty of circular routes that will get you back to where you started. erictherat or tribanist should have some good ones

Looking at his elevation figure I think he is a hills man! If you divide the total elevation by the number of 'activities', it only averages out at 361 feet of ascent per ride.............

Whitestar1 - Ok. The Peak district has some lovely youth hostals. I have stayed in and can really recommend Eyam, Ravenstor and Castleton, from when I used to work for YHA. Hartington is also lovely, but I've heard some dodgy reports of Hathersage. I've put together a 50miles ish route from Castleton. www.strava.com/routes/424357Out of Castleton, straight up Winnets - spectacular climb. down to Chapel and into the Goyt valley - which is beautiful. Up to the Cat and Fiddle, and Buxton. Then through the lovely little lanes around Tideswell to Monsal Head - a real highlight. Thats the climbing done fro the day. Flat home through Hathersage. The Peak district can be geographically divided in 2 White peak south of Mam Tor and the dark peak to the north. This route takes in the more popular, white peak side through the Derbyshire Dales. North of Mam Tor things get bleaker and wilder with Bleaklow and Kinder Scout. If you give some more details of what you want from your break I'll be able to give you some more routes to think about. Although there are some good flat roads to the south of Derbyshire, I don't think you can really experience cycling round here without hills. Both myself and Tribanist are a bit addicted to hills I am afraid. However if you would prefer a flatter route let me know. well - it is a start to think about - let me know what you think. Nathan

Can't help much with route advice but the Peak District is great. Just wanted to compliment you on the blog. I will be treating cow shxt with a lot more circumspection in the future.

Some very good advising from Nathan (Erictherat) there; I'd personally be tempted to exchange Winnats for the road round to Edale and then up Mam Nick - the scenery on the road to Edale is great, as is the scenery from the road up Mam Nick. Mam Nick is a good hard hill but a bit less relentless than Winnats (which is spectacular but a bit hard to appreciate fully on account of the gradient - it can also get pretty busy with cars). But it's horses for courses - either is a great option. I'm also happy to help with advising - the peak is a great place for cycling, and you're spoilt for choice in putting together 100 miles of biking - thinking about it, you could do Winnats one day and Mam Nick the next, getting the best of both worlds!

Nathan You are just the man to talk to! The idea is to have a two day out in the Peak district. I really don't want to kill myself off on the hills so a mixture of hills and flats covering a circular route. Looked at the route above and that is hilly! Plus the descents look right scary, yet one must get his stripes if I am to call myself a cyclist! So lets say a moderate to challenging route.

Thanks for that. What I would like to do is a 100 miles in the two days. I would like a central point to park and stay overnight (meals too). GPS file possible? Suggestions? I am getting really excited over this already.
