Hi guys
My Triban 500 is expected to arrive later this week. I have a few days off, so now its time to start stocking up on accesories. One of the things I will need is a saddle bag to holds all of my bits for a long ride. There are way to many to choose from, just wondered if you could recommend anything. Also need a couple of bottle cages.
Any help is appreciated

I have these cages, broke one after a year of use due to clumsy insertion of oversized bottle, replaced with same. You could spend £30 on a carbon one which will save you 5g .

+1 for the £5.99 saddle bag nomoreheroes linked above. Can get all the tools and tubes (x1 tube, multi-tool, tyre levers, couple of zip ties, puncture repair kit, house key, money) you'll ever need for a day out on the bike. Not enough space to fit food and mobile phone in as well so you might need a bigger bag if you want to carry tools+food. I always pop my flapjack, bananas and mobile in rear clothing pockets for easy access (not the phone) whist riding along.

...a decent cycling jersey with 3 pockets on the back should deal with all your needs, I don't bother with a saddle bag, gets messy - I do sometimes fit a little mudguard there instead ass-savers.com/ . My set up for longer rides is part of a routine now; left side has phone, credit card / money (in glasses bag, wrapped in a small piece of bubble wrap), mini rain jacket; middle has a bike / puncture repair pack (I tape my bits together inside bubble wrap pack now; right has food in it, set up so I can eat while rolling (open 1 or 2 cereal bars before riding etc.).

I bought one of those for my son, mainly because he likes that colour and it matches his bike. I'm fairly certain that there was another colour when I bought it, but didn't see it when I looked just now, or perhaps the only way we could buy that colour was with the tools? Can't recall. These were as cheap as I could find (cages), around £5.50 delivered for the two and very nice and usable

I'm not a fan of the Decathlon plastic cages, there's no lip to prevent the bottle sliding upwards and I had a bottle fly out once hitting a pothole. The metal ones are better (at Giltbrook they're £1 when you buy a bike, not sure about other stores) and you can always squeeze them in a bit if you want them tighter. For a bit more, I use the Elite bottles and cages, the Sky colours go well with the T5/500 www.decathlon.co.uk/custom-race-pack-id_8178652.html

I've got the wire style on my MTB, can't fault the cheapo plastic ones first posted above really, not glamorous but perfectly functional - the biggest pain is grimy roads wearing out water bottles quicker IME.

Same here, had the Decathlon plastic cages when i first got the bike but soon swapped them over to Elite changes after bottles went flying across the road on a number of occasions.

I bought two of these as will with the BMC bottles when I bought the bike. Think it was £6/7 for bottle and cage from memory so can't go wrong really.

I have the elite cages, faultless so far, even with different bottles. One permanently has a Pro tool biddon in there, rock solid. thing is you pay bit more for them. £7.16 in all colours at Wiggle at the moment (12th May 2014) The alloy ones from Planet X £1.99 are great, I've just put one on my Son's MTB

Thanks for all your help on this... I kind of like the team sky colours as they will compliment the bike. The elite cages at wiggle is what I'm swaying too
