If anyone is interested, thought it would be of use to list OEM component weights so people looking for upgrades can compare weights.Attachment DeletedSaddle - 316 grams Seat post - 245 grams Seat post clamp - 27 grams Stem - 158 grams Pedal - 172 grams Pedal with toe clip - 219 grams Front wheel with tyre and tube - 1478 grams Rear wheel with tyre, tube and cassette - 1998 grams If anyone has done upgrades already and has the original component still please list your weights.

Let's not forget the heaviest thing on the bike, that is you I was speaking too a guy, in the LBS about 6 months ago, who must have been 18 stone, he was looking for someone to put ali. spoke nipples on his wheels, I had to laugh.

Must admit I often have that thought too, it's amazing the chase for the odd gram here or there when the rider could trim several kilos off the bike's total weight.
Dropping the rider weight does make a hell of a difference as I have found myself

Well I'll admit I was somewhat overweight/obese at the start of the year if you follow bmi's. Lost 23 lbs since the beginning of the year though through calorie counting so now time to add the exercise! Hence the triban 3. I was only just over 14 stone mind and that was obese!

Well done mate, I have just hit 14st from an all time high of 21st, that why I am now treating myself to a T5A after my MTB

Yes very well done to both of you, I myself go 15st, not bad I think for a 60 year old who loves real ale and cycleing.

The weight thing makes me chuckle too sometimes. My youngest was hell bent on changing the forks on his alloy budget bike the other year because he thought it would make his bike so much lighter, me and the eldest kept telling him that it would save about the same weight as having a pee! He was comparing the weights of two bikes, one with carbon forks and one not, but ignoring the weight of the alloy crank-arms on the lighter.
I'm all for losing a bit off the bike and it is nice to think you're not lugging around excess, but it can go too far. We think nothing around carrying a kilo of water to drink.

These are the weights of the Sora 'upgrade' chainset that a few here have fitted. www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/road-parts/transmission/chainsets-road/shimano-sora-road-chainset.htmlI have these to put on, but I'm waiting for decathlon to repair the originals first; mines a bit wobbly and catching the front derailler. This is for the triple, 175mm version. Rounded up to the next gram..... Left crank 274g Right crank 819g (this includes the chain rings) BB bearings 96g I make that 1189g total. I'll weigh the original fitments when they eventually come off the bike.

The weight of he original BB and cranks.
BB including fixing nuts 290g Left crank 218g Right crank 583g
Total comes to 1091g, so by changing to the Sora set I've put 100g on the bike

Does anyone know the weight of the wheels without the tyres and tubes on?

I can understand people obssessing about the weight of their bike if they're trying to shave fractions of seconds off time-trial times, but personally I ride my bike as keep-fit excercise - in that sense, the heavier the bike, the more excercise I get??
By the way the stock wheels without tyres and tubes - Front 944g; Rear (C/w original cassette) - 1,465g.

Assuming the cassette weighs around 350g that puts the wheel set at slightly over 2kgs? I'm not doing time trials but I am trying to shave off fractions of seconds off my leaving work to getting home time! I put maximum effort into all my commutes so lighter bike = faster, but same amount of exercise!
