Apologies, I know that is very random!!
But when you see the pretty pack shots of brand new bikes and the bikes are clearly not on a stand, how do they take the photo?!
Do they lay them flat and take them from above? Photoshop the stand out of the picture? Lean them against a white wall?
I know, I'll get my coat...

This is how we do it... We prop up the none drove side crank arm on wooden blocks, the drive side pedal is levelled with the aid of a wooden skewer and a blob of blu-tac. The clamp on the bars is from a metal arm so the bike doesn't fall over. (These Casati bikes tend to be a bit expensive). The bike itself is then cut out in photoshop ready for comping on to the background design.

I've seen some photographers hang them upside down with fishing line from a scaffold pole.
