Went to Waterstones yesterday but, alas, they didn't have either book. Off to Amazon I go.

Still waiting for my books Had a flat stage yesterday. Might have to find a hill tonight I have to say that after all my recent hill climbing, and yesterday doing some riding on the flat, I can now feel the difference in my legs/lungs/respiratory. Amazing what a bit of 'training' can do for you. ETA: Yay my books just arrived!!

Swain's Lane - tick.
I won't be doing that one again. Its not so much the climb itself but I realise I don't know that area at all, and as well as usual london traffic/potholes/tr.lights/etc it was a bit disorientating.
Plus I got 101st on the 100climb list, so no time bonuses.
Think I'll stick to SW/W London, or out to the countryside in Surrey/Bucks.
So anyway, 8/14 done, 6 of SE climbs from the 1st book to go.

Rode out to Matlock today to tick off Bank rd and Riber, seemed to make sense to go up Bank Rd then drop down to go straight up Riber but it was hard, espescially with 39/25 gearing. Anyway I survived (just) and it's taken me up to 599th

In theory 2 more from the books. Except now I see the route in the book for 'Chalkpit Lane' includes a couple of roads from Oxted before you get to Chalkpit Lane itself. Oh well. Looking at the list on VV for the SouthEast, I am in the top 19 in terms of number of climbs, ie 9/14 or more. Of the 19 of us I am by far the slowest. I'm quite proud of my perseverance if nothing else.

Bad luck, justifies getting the book though .I was lucky, Riber is like that, I climbed the steep bit a few years ago and if I'd taken the same route there would have missed out on the 'official' climb. I'm not the fastest either, but you get the same satisfaction (and views) when you reach the top

Am I obsessive compulsive about this? I think so. I notice eric the rat is closing on my score, and immediately I am looking for another climb to do.

erictheratI don't care tbh, its only because we were so close on the list that I saw you on there. Surely there is no bad reasons for being motivated to get on your bike. I'm approaching the point where I will have to chuck the bike in the car to get to any new ones (unless I am happy to cycle 100km+ as well as the climbs)

My 'score' is artificially inflated by the fact that some of the climbs I have done, there are less than 100 people have ridden them. 9/14 in the SE is really the only one I keep notice of.

I'm down from 599 to 623, going backwards I'll have to have a drive up to the peak district to bag some more, it's too long a day to cycle up and ride round a few climbs

Everyone will be dropping down the lists, since apparently it was highlighted on some other cycling website, and VV has had a lot more traffic since then.
