Hard to tell from the photo, but looks less clearance with your tyre than the standard one?

Next time I'm out with a T5 owner I'll check in person.

Roughly the same shot as DelB 's , 23 Conti Ultra and older model 105 callipers (non standard):

Note that with the base spacer on my new FSA headset, there's no gap between forks and headset - the new spacer was rubbing the first few outings but now it's settled in and works perfectly, perhaps this spacer isn't on the standard model due to that issue .

When I was last in Decathlon about a couple of weeks ago, I looked at the Red T3's that were in there. And they defiantly had more front fork clearance than my 2012 Red T3. I think they may have had a design change with the last batch of T3's. By the look of things, fitting mudguards wouldn't be a problem. Unlike mine. Disclaimer: I wear glasses and I'm due a sight test soon, so maybe my eyes might have been deceiving me. Zeb

Are you sure it's not just that the only red T3's left now are 650 wheels? If anyone can measure from the rim to under the fork, not from the tyre, as that is another variable.

All of the forks have mudguard eyes and I've always believed it possible to fit proper mudguards eg SKS chromoplastic narrow, albeit a bit of a faff and only with 23mm tyres. Saying that it's not unusual for componants to change without notice due to supply issues and last year when we couldn't get any T3s it was apparently due to the forks. If the supplier/design was changed at that time it was not publicised and I didn't notice a difference. Whilst the axle to crown length should be the same to maintain the geometry (although again they may alter it without saying) there could be less thickness under the crown giving more tyre clearance. Both brakes and tyres have also changed so they could give the impression of the clearance being different?

Proposed scientific test.
Methodology: Take index finger, an old red t3, new black t5, go to rear of fork, insert finger in gap if you can, gauge differences (if any). Test complete.
It's well documented on various forums that red t3 was tricky with mudguards and with 25s really tricky.
I got to the point, when gradually cutting more and more from my front mudguard, to try and clear original callipers, of deciding to chop the front right off at the hanger tab, as its stability was gone and the radius was still not concentric enough to keep the front tip off the tyre.

maybe the new T500s will have more clearance also.
