Having returned to cycling in the last year after a 20 year gap and looking at saving money by doing my own maintenance and repairs I umm'd and ahh'd about buying a workshop stand to use at home.
I'd previously struggled to setup gearing on 3 of my bikes without a stand, requiring someone to help lift the back wheel of the floor while I turned the crank and operated the gears.
Having looked around the web prices for stands varied from £11.99 for a Halfords jobbie to well over £100 for anything offering any sort of flexibility.
I saw a stand on ebay priced at just under £38.75 + p&p offering quick release levers, folding for easy storage and 360 degree rotation. I took the plunge and I am extremely happy with the product.
The stand has 4 fold out legs which offer very good stability and adjustable height adjustment, both adjusted by quick release levers.
The feet have holes in them enabling you to mount them permanently if using in a workshop.
The supplied tool/parts tray and height adjustment quick release lever.
Quick release lever for the folding legs.
The rotation lever and also the quick release frame/seat post clamp
The stand with my poorly Specialized Sirrus Comp mounted via the seat post. I know its not a Triban 3 but the seat is off my Triban 3 ;D
Showing the flexibility of the stand. Rotates through 360 degrees should anyone need it or if anyone likes to do headstands whilst working
The stand also includes a clip on stay that mounts to the stand and the handle bars to keep the handle bars straight if needed. I haven't used this yet so can't comment on it
The stand has proven invaluble to me so far, setting up my wife's Trek hybrid, my own Triban 3 gears, my kids BMX's and my damaged Sirrus Comp. Its made working on the bikes alot easier and also has saved me loads of time and frustration. Its sturdy with the bike on it and feels like it would last a long time for a home user.
If anyone is interested the seller on ebay is called jimmenzies, myworld.ebay.co.uk/jimmenzies?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 he does sell other stands, cheaper ones without quick release etc.
