2 miles into a 4.3 mile Strava segment your pump falls off the bike. Do you 1) Stop and pick it up knowing you won't now get a PR on that segment, or 2) keep going and hope that it is still there undamaged when you go back after completing the segment? My pump fell off about 200 yards from home at the end of this mornings ride but it did set me thinking about would I would do if it had happened earlier. What would you do?

Stop and pick it up, keep improving and you'll be quicker next time you tackle it anyway - tbh, no pump on my bike when on proper Strava bashing locally anyway, Mrs Rad is on the bat phone if necessary .

My old pump has fallen off my bike a couple of times. Fortunately I found by chance a pump I had bought ages ago, a lovely, tiny chrome Topeak one, which attaches to my frame perfectly, with a velcro loop for total security. After my water bottle fell off after a pothole on a TOC ride a couple of months back, I've changed to those that have the notch in the neck that help them stay in too. So I say.. fail to prepare, prepare to fail, lols

I'd put a releasable cable tie around the pump.

Does not compute.
Pump goes in middle jersey pocket.

I'd put a releasable cable tie around the pump. I concur, but in my case I have a 'velcro thingy' around it. - I have this pump
In answer to OP, I think I would stop and pick it up

Frame mounted pumps are against the rules. That's why I have a white Zefal one

Does not compute. Pump goes in middle jersey pocket. +1 on the middle pocket, I'm thinking about putting my inner tube and a mini-tool in there as well and getting rid of the saddle bag too.

Thanks for all your views. I would actually stop and pick it up although I'm now going to fix it more securely with velcro cable ties. My pockets aren't big enough to carry it. Phone, 2x tubes, keys and jelly babies/fig rolls take up that space. Also, the other day I set out with 2 tubes and arrived home with one so somehow one had managed to escape en route and unlike the pump I didn't hear it go.
