Through the TOC I met @leo, and through @leo I hooked up with the 'Into The Forest' cycle group on Facebook, and now I have a 30 mile New Forest cycle in the diary for tomorrow morning, and they do regular Thursday evening blasts and other rides. Point I'm making is that there are groups out there, maybe not obvious at first but am sure they are there. Sky Ride website is another place to look for riders in your area, @reddevil56. Looked at Sky Ride but nearest is about a 45 mile drive away. Yes I live very remotely in the Yorkshire Dales. 6 street lights and no shop or pub lol. All the buddy's on Sky Rides are males ( not that I mind) but it's not easy as a female to ask a complete stranger to be your buddy on a bike ride

Has anyone had any experience of sky rides? Thought about trying some at some point, though the only ones around here seem to be the organised by local cyclists and just advertised on the sky ride website.
For the ones that say they have a cafe break somewhere on the route, what do they do with bikes? Would I need to buy a bike lock?

No pub? *shudders*. Try starting your own ride on the Sky Rides site, I think anyone can do that, you may be surprised about who is around you thinking the same thing as you. Of course, you may not be inundated and it will just confirm your hermit-like status

You should see my wine rack, but you may be right, most of the people where I live are about 70+ here. I'm the oddball.

They usually come in different grades, like easy, challenging, etc. I haven't done any but my OH has, she really enjoyed it. It was a 30 mile reasonably easy ride in a group of about 10. It was a local organiser. Try one out, see what it's like! A cafe break would probably mean you could keep you r eye on the bike, I would have thought.

Since September 2012 3471.7 phone was broke for 2 months, bad snow and flu in January reduced that although no serious miles until about the end of March. Chain replaced after about 600 miles (if that) both wheels replaced by Decathlon without any problems. Also replaced my tyres Vittoria Rubinos I think at £15 for the pair have been great only 2 punctures I think. baz replied about the Hightown on Strava. Reminder don't use think at the end of every line :-)
