Last couple of days I have errors on Strava, showing straight lines, and not tracking data properly. I have found out it's a little issue with an iOS 7 setting on the iPhone. You need to make sure 'Background App Refresh' is set to ON in Settings > General > Background App Refresh. - This will allow the GPS data to keep running when the iPhone, 'Auto-Locks' You can set the apps you want individually, basically, anything you want to keep running in the background, such as Satnav. Reason for last couple of days errors was, I had turned off this feature to experiment with battery life! Official line from Strava

That's interesting, that function was designed to check for updates for apps and pull them down in the background its been noted as a battery hog and advised that its turned off if you are concerned about the battery drain.

Probably best to close down apps that you don't need on whilst out on the bike then.

Yeah Whitestar1 that feature was in the beta, The automatic downloads are in Settings > iTunes & App Store now. The only things I have in the background app refresh are Navigation things, which I tend to quit the apps after use. That way you can keep the feature on but only for select apps.
