PS - Time Trialing just slips into the normal traffic and does mainly left turn courses with no traffic lights. As discovered by our Parish when the new lights in the village meant the cycle club bookings for the village hall dropped off due to not being able to race through the village anymore. Unfortunate, as the lights are generally for controlling rush hour eedjets and have no practical bearing on other times of day, particularly quiet times when the racing took place. Slightly off topic as usual but I have often thought it would be a good idea if the UK adopted the traffic light system used in several European counties where the traffic lights switch to intermittant flashing at off peak times. They just serve as a warning that there is a junction and to take care when crossing. The cost to change all the lights in the UK would no doubt be prohibitive but there would be some savings from the environmental aspect as there would be less stopping and starting which is a waste of fuel as well people's time and patience.

The nightmare set near us that has to be turned off at peak morning times due to congestion is an ongoing misery.
They don't have sensors due to budget apparently, although they've since spent loads trying to get them to work but not adding sensors.
At night if you roll off the motorway past bedtime you can guarantee you'll sit through a full cycle of four way changes in the pitch black (they couldn't stretch to street lights either) and not see a single car come through.
The locals just negotiate the junction in the way you're suggesting - these were Highways Authority the ones done by the Local Authority just nearby do have sensors and are used as they should be.
I think the flashing ones are OK and could be used in some spots, although they'd probably confuse some people even more.

Just been on the BBC London news - resident rolled out to moan, OK fair enough thought I, it's a bit rough being house bound but you could probably get round it with parking out the zone, or working with the organisers a bit. However, a pub owner (lady) was on suggesting that customers don't come to her pub because cyclists put people off the area lol - unqualified nonsense that the BBC should know better than broadcasting.

I notice the ToB commentary on ITV4 was laying it on thick that the locals love the cycling and from this pic' below, I guess they are speaking the truth about the majority view .
