I'm sure wearing a thermal Base Layer is breaking the rules?

As far I can see in the rules, leg warmers must come off before arm warmers and if you ride in bad weather you are a bad-ass

I bought a long sleeve merino wool top from On-One last winter and can recommend this highly. Was less than £20 and keeps you warm even when wet. Just bought this so good to hear it performs well, but it cost me £30 I take it on-one and planet-x are the same company looking at the website, which is exactly the same. It performs really well, it wicks well and never smells so you can go a few rides without needing to throw it in the wash - having said that washed it countless times and still decent condition - absolute bargain even for £30 IMO. It was reduced when I bought it.

Mr Rockhopper and I both used the Decathlon tops last year, he also had some of the bottoms and they were both great, very toastie, in spring I cut the arms off one of mine as it got warmer - didn't mind as they were only a fiver last year

I was looking to buy some thermal base layers for the winter and was looking at Merino wool, which are quite expensive, but I know they will do the job. I thought that I would look at Decathlon and I found these: www.decathlon.co.uk/simple-warm-ski-base-layer-id_8157253.html#avantagesThey are for skiing, but look amazing value (obviously not wool). What do you think? Will they do the job in the Winter on the bike? I am actually looking for another base thermal layer too. Thank you for drawing my attention to this item, got a £5 voucher hidden in the wallet somewhere.

IMO, merino is best for thermal but it costs - i check howies for sales and they often come down a lot in price. The biggest diff is, as someone above says, they dont stink after exercise. My helly hansen baselayer reeks after a few rides. The merino could go for weeks. (not that i do of course!)

Jesus, some people actually wear the same clothing for a few rides? that means putting on dirty smelly clothes ! Its not hard to throw them in the wash after your cycle, no way could or would i go out in clothing that was not clean.

www.decathlon.co.uk/ss-light-base-layer-3-wh-bl-id_8235725.html .. these do get sweaty on the outside, once i took it off i was very dry, prolly not helped by the build up of condensation wearing www.decathlon.co.uk/windproof-vest-5-id_8221240.html#User_opinion front is kinda windproof so means your gonna sweat more with not much airflow passing thru, my back was fine because it has a netted back to let air out, gloves are warm but after an hour of use ( it was nt that cold outside so.... ) they can become sweaty inside only feeling uncomfortable once you take them off and want to put them back on,expected more for 12 quid! i spent about 36 quid on these and give them 5 outta 10, cheap at the price, pay a bit more for better protection, my lesson learnt.
