Most people do seem to unclip the left. I unclip the right. I'm also left handed. I'm very confused.

As a seasoned motorcyclist I always put my left foot down as the right is still in use for the rear brake (unless riding an owd Brit iron). We are taught that the right foot would be exposed to traffic. I have carried this over to cycling.

I unclip my right foot but live in France, does that count as a left (for traffic) or right as your legs cant change!

I've got these exact ones, fit the cleats perfectly and save them from wear and tear. If you weigh up extending the life of the cleats for 1/4 of the price of new ones then it is definitely worth it, especially for coffee shop rides! They fit in a jersey pocket easily enough or a saddle bag if that's what you prefer.

I'm ambidextrous as I was left handed but forced as a kid at school to write with my right and I seem to have carried that onto my bike! I unclip with either side without thinking tbh and it's pretty random which one I choose! Left footed for football though.

I'm right handed and right footed, unclip my right foot as its always been the foot I use to push off on. Interestingly, on my first clip less ride last week, discovered I always naturally used to put my left foot down first but then use my right to push off on.

On to my second set of cleats now. The first set lasted about 10 months, left foot was ok(ish) but the right (which i always unclip when stationary) and worn to the stage where it wouldn't stay clipped in. Hi goffski, interested in what you said here about unclipping. For me, it's always unclick the left when stopped, not the right. For me, left is safer as it means leaning away from passing traffic rather than towards it. Have always done this, growing up, I would always come to a stop with my left peg on the ground. Interested in why you do the right foot thing, just habit, grew up in France, lols? I guess it's just habit. I think i've probably always put my right foot down first and this has carried over when i went clip less. For me it just seems more natural. Next time i'm out i'll try the left foot and see what happens (probably end up on the floor!!).

Just wanted to update this thread - cleat covers arrived within two working days on Wiggles free postage service and do exactly what they say on the tin. Easy to clip on and off your cleats, seem to be very hard-wearing, completely non-slip and easy to stow in a jersey pocket. Best Β£6 I've spent on bike products!!
