About how much should you pay for a decent mechanic to service the rear hub on the Triban? No way near enough confidence to do it myself, and a slight grinding noise has started lately. Should i be worried?

Probably just some grit in with the bearings, can't think what else it could be. I'd say it is worth having a go on the rear wheel, just think how much money you will save if you are able to learn to service the bike yourself. Especially with youtube videos you can see exactly what to do. For the useful part of this post, I have no idea - so a not so useful post, sorry

It's dead easy to do mate. But you need a chainwhip, cone spanners, grease and some bb's. Β£10-15 for a bike shop to do it for you I'd say. Ring around a few and ask though.

How necessary are new ball bearings? Planning on doing mine soon and from what the videos say as long as they look fine, aren't rusty or pitted, then just clean the old grease off them with a cloth and reuse.

Not gonna risk it on my pride and joy lads, gonna leave it to the professionals this time. I might tackle it on my hybrid in the future just to practice.

found a bike shop offering Β£15 for a rear hub service, so something around Β£10-25 I would be expecting

They are so cheap you may as well replace them, Β£1-2 for branded ones. When I last did a wheel the LBS just gave them to me free out of a bucket full.
