I see people talking about gilet this gilet that. What is it really - well apart from a jersey without sleeves. Why should I get one?

They block the wind at the front whilst still ventilating at the back. Just the ticket on cold, windy days to help regulate your temperature.

I use mine when it's not quite cold enough for the jacket but a little too cold for just jersey/base layer. I can get too hot in the jacket, if i took it off there's no where to put it as it doesn't fold small enough for the jersey pocket.

Essential piece of Spring and Autumn kit for me. Get a lightweight Gilet that can fit in your jersey, great at blocking wind, but doesn't restrict your riding. Make sure it is a tight fit, you don't want it bellowing.

I assume that with the arms, you would use it as a waterproof jacket? I don't know how watertight it will be around the arms. Generally you don't need a Gilet to be waterproof as it is mainly to block the wind in the Spring/Autumn.
