What do you all eat before a 1.5-2 hour ride. I had porridge today with toast about half hour before. But I felt I underperformed. Was a harder ride than normal. 2 steepish hills (in my head) and 2 longer drags (again in my head) Any pointers? www.strava.com/activities/80906550Thanks

porridge and toast sounds fine for a 2 hour ride to me, not that I've done any rides that long yet.
How much riding have you done recently? Could just be a result of over training and your body needs time to recover.

Maybe your body didn't had enough time to digest it or the quantity was too small, some days one does perform worse than others who knows why...

Bowl of cereal for slow release so porridge is good. Banana because someone else said so. Mars Bar or some biccies for instant release. Pack another Mars Bar in the saddle bag. Doing fine for me so far but I'm no professional.

You need to be eating your porridge an hour and a half before you go out on a ride. Your body won't be getting any benefit from it if you've only eaten half an hour before the off.

At two hours - are you taking in enough liquid during the ride ?
IE - drink before you are thirsty - small sip every 15 mins is suggested.

I think this is the prob. Not enough digestion time. I have usually relied on a banana and cereal. Plenty of drink slowly and a handful of jelly bears! Thanks guys

It's a tough one, fit4fifty. I did my first ever 50 mile sportive a couple of weekends ago and found myself trying to force some porridge down at 6.15 in the morning, when I really didn't want to even be awake never mind eating!!!
