Has anybody got any recommendations for a decent helmet, pictures and where ye got it would be appreciated. My current one is a cheap Bell Ukon and, due to adverse sweating, stinks. Pads can be removed but the straps cannot and therein lies the problem. Any advice most welcome, cheers

Only ever had Β£10 helmets from Lidl. Removable padding but not straps. Just fill a big enough bucket with soapy water no warmer than 30C and soak it a while then hang to dry. I have 2 of these and rotate them into service.

I ordered about 12 helmets from Wiggle recently as was struggling finding a decent one. Some are stupidly priced like the Kask Mojito Β£120, which looks good, but is utterly kack. I can say with utter ceratinity the mid priced Specialized helmets are by far the best. Specialized Propero 2 is what I settled on. Pads are replaceable cheaply, you get a selection of fitting pads, if you bust the helmet you get another half price, is properly tested and certified.

I just bought a Specialized Align a couple of days ago, its really comfortable and feels much more secure than my old one, and as KC says you get one half price if you have a crash Also has a removable peak, which is good for the mountain bike. Β£29.99 from my lbs but the same price on pretty much every online shop

I've got the Giro Savant. Fits me well and is comfortable. I'd never buy a helmet online unless it was a like for like swap as we all have different head shapes and sizes. What works for me me may not work for you.

Do the click and collect before you go. It will probably be the pre-sale price in store Been caught by that many times.

Good call cbrdeano - Halfords were pretty good when I bought my Shimano clip less pedals, they were 34.99 on the shelf, I showed the till guy their website on my phone with them at 21.95 and he rung them through no probs.

good idea to try a few twigster, i got a mavic plasma personally and find it really comfy wth plenty of adjustment for head shapes of varying types - 124 down to 85 so a bit costly also got a btwin racing 5 which i think looks the nuts for 35 quid
interestingly the btwin comes with spare pads, IDK how youd clean the straps - baby wipes?

I have the Btwin racing 5 I think, not on the bike today got it when it was Β£18 could be wrong with the number took a while get used to the straps are always twisting which does my head in. A nice helmet but always wear a bandana which easily washed.

I wear a thin skullcap in the summer and that helps, just give the cap a wash every couple of days, it just does not protect the lower straps, i give these a wipe with baby wipes for a quick clean and hang the staps in a cup (one each side) with warm water and a little bit of washing powder then rinse off under the tap.Works for me.

I've just picked up the Giro Transfer from Halfords, great fit once adjusted so the 'V' is under my ear properly. Cant go wrong for 20 quid.
