Anybody used or own one of these contraptions. There are different priced examples available but is there any difference between them? To be honest I'd probably steer clear of the ones from Hong Kong and possibly opt for one from this country. (Probably made in China anyway! Possibly this one at Β£8. Could be worth a punt.

Never used one Red. I always take my chain off and put it in a tin then wash it through with parrafin til it stays clear. Hang to let dry then refit and I use Worth dry chain lube as per my motorcycles. It is not sticky so then chain stays cleaner for longer.
Current KMC 8X chain has almost 2,000 miles on it and is still going strong using this regime. I have only cleaned it twice in this time but I do not ride in rain if I can avoid it. Don't even wash the bike as dry bikes do not corrode.
My local Lidl were currently selling a chain cleaner like that but from last time they had cycling gear on so maybe nobody else liked them.

Agree with Rocket - take chain off & clean in parrafin.

Looks the same as the one I got from Lidl a couple of months ago, it was useless, didn't clean the chain and tipped the cleaning fluid all over the floor. I just clean the chain with a rag and re-lube.

I soak mine in Fenwicks but other cleaners will do just as well.
Pop chain off with quick release link, it really is simple if you learn how and far easier than faffing with plastic wheelie thingies.
I used to scrub in soapy water from there but now have a new technique for final swill off, which would work just as well for an initial quick clean also if you're in a rush; get a plastic bottle out your recycling (milk, Coca-Cola, beer, cider, Evian etc) drop chain and cleaning liquid in, shake it whilst dancing to the song from Madagascar. Rub off with a cloth, there will be hardly any gunk on it by now, if at all. Then either stick on washing line in the sun for an hour or two or in the airing cupboard (or around heating pipes - my prefered method).
Whilst chain is off, why not have a go at the rear derailleur, rear brakes, chain set etc making the most of the chain being 'en vacances' - I usually take the rear wheel off for a scrub of the cassette and rims etc.
Refit it all and add minimal lube; no need to rush - I work through it over a night, in amongst other things and do the final chain refit and lube in a few minutes the morning after the serious cleaning.

Easy if you know how and have the powerlink or equivalent; not much trickier (if at all) with a chain tool but I prefer to use the link designed for the purpose.

Yep, the 2nd one is from Lidl, i got one of these a while back for about a fiver, it was ok and sort of cleaned the chain but nothing beats taking the chain off for a good clean in white spirit or something like that. I don't do this very often, but Morgan Blue chain cleaner and a rag does a very good job.

I have a muc off one I use for my bi-weekly clean. Its actually very good but you get through a can of cleaner very quickly.
