Do any of you have it? I don't just mean in case your bike gets stolen but in case you have a mishap whilst out and about.

I don't and hadn't really given it any thought until you mentioned it. May not be a bad idea if the premium is reasonable.
Have you looked at any policies?

Still researching the options but given that most of my miles are on cycle tracks frequented by other inconsiderate users mainly on foot then I guess it's only a matter of time before something happens. They won't hear my bell with earphones in and don't seem to know to face oncoming traffic that keeps left. I have also had a fair few close calls on the road. I'm used to not being seen as I am a motorcyclist but honestly it's far worse on a bicycle.

Insurance for personal accident? Liability? Or similar to fully comp on a car where you can get the bike fixed even if you crashed it?
Personal Accident I don't have. If I crash it is my own damn fault, if someone hits me I can claim from them.
Fully comp cover, same as above really.
Third party liability cover, worth checking your home insurance as you may have this cover on that anyway. Double check it covers when cycling. I have a british cycling ride membership, costs £28 for the year and you get £10million liability cover, as well as 12% off at wiggle, 10% off at halfords and a few other benefits. Also gives you legal assistance, so if you get hit by a car then you can pass all the details on to the lawyers and they will set about sueing the other party for damages on your behalf.

My lad has insurance. I think it covers his bike in case of theft and liability to a third party.. I think he has some form of roadside assistance in it too, if a peddle falls off mile from home for example, he can call someone up for help (other than me).
I haven't looked at my household policy to see if I'm covered for any of the above. I know a lot of them have legal assistance, which is useful but not quite the same thing if someone is trying to claim for injuries you've caused.
I also fly kites, big ones which pull me around in a buggy. I've always had insurance for these to cover me for third party liability, so I suppose it makes sense to have something similar for the bike. Even if you only use it when Mr Motorist starts his tirade about "I pay road tax and INSURANCE" at least you can say "so do I"

The 3rd party and legal assistance cover as part of British Cycling membership is worth getting imo. If a motor vehicle hits you it is far too easy to be intimidated by their insurers (or the driver) and some people don't pursue what they are entitled to get in damages. I'm not sure theft insurance is worth it unless you leave your bike outside often. I've always found as an add on to a home insurance policy it is far too expensive, like £30-£50 extra for a bike up to around £350.

I got thinking about this, as I had a minor 'off' this morning. I think I am going to see whether my bike is covered under the home insurance, and then I will join British Cycling for the public liability insurance.

Bike should be covered as accidental damage, as a 'personal possession' while out. - Check your policy however...

Our house insurance covered theft but not accidental damage or any third party claims so I took out separate insurance with ETA. Covers basically everything and it was about £35 for the year.

CTC membership £42 pa, includes 3rd party insurance + access to Cyclists defence fund if needed. Also gives 12% discount at Wiggle but I find CRC is usually cheaper.

So, moving on 3 years, what is the current conclusion from the combined wisdom of the BROC?

About the same. Sign up to one of the cycling organisations for the free 3rd party insurance and the 10% off at Halfords. House insurance for theft.
