My mrs has just bought a bike and were looking at a roof rack capable of holding two bikes.
Whats the cheapest option?
We have the "slots" on the roof to take the rack but dont have anything on it just yet

Not the cheapest option but I have Thule aero bars with the 591 bike rack. Found it to be flawless for about 4 years now and it allows you to lock everything together for security which is useful if you have to stop off on the way home as well as for peace of mind in case the ratchet was to fail. Make sure you look over reviews rather than just buying on price because some of the cheaper ones I've seen don't look as solid or secure as the Thule. Another option is if there's a car model specific one available from your dealer which is sometimes cheaper and often a rebranded version of a decent make.

I would say the thule ones which are about 60 quid are well worth the extra if you are going the roof rack route.
They are so much quicker and easier to use than the cheaper most blanc alternative that I bought.
It was 30 quid cheaper but I soon wished I spent the extra.
Having said that I now have a thule tow bar mounted rack that I prefer in many ways.

Another vote here for the Thule aerobars and 591 carriers.
Must be one of the most secure and easiest systems for loading and locking the bikes to the car roof.
