I need to buy new shifters, I have Sora stuff. What could be posssibly better about the 2014 stuff that comes out in october?
I really want to get rid of my triple and have a double like 39/50 or 42/52. As atm I have 12-23 and 30/39/50. Just way too many gears and faffing.
Could buy the compact Sora and put a 39 ring on it instead of 34???
Cant really afford 105 stuff, but that would be ideal.
Tiagra also but can't stand the look of silver components on the red Triban!

Is the need for new shifters to change from triple to double or some other reason? You can use the limit screws to enable tripple shifters to work on a double/compact.
I think compact and doubles have a different hole pattern. A quick google said something about compact being 110BCD whereas double uses 130BCD usually so it may be difficult to find a 39 ring to fit on the sora compact.

Rather than changing to a 39/50 double. Why don't you just not use the granny ring. This what I do.

The compact small ring has a different PCD than standard so you can't swap a 34 ring to 39.

Going to stick with the triple. Not worth the time and expense of banishing it!
Was wanting to fit a double and put a wider range cassette on but just went for a ride and the acceleration you get in the 39 ring, with a 12-23 close cassette is amazing.
