Hi all, Hoping you can point me in the right direction. Been riding my white Triban for a week or so now. Really enjoying it, not tackled any big rides due to the weather. Have been looking at getting some shoes and have been looking at these - www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/SHFIRSRCS/fizik_r3_road_cycling_shoesWill these go with any sort of clipless peddles i'm assuming ? Any suggestions for the Triban 3 ? Also I have noticed that I am reaching for the brakes and gears, it seems the handlebar is just a little bit too far away. Is changing the stem an easy solution for this ? Think mine is a 110 mm one and have seen on Decathlon you can get 80/90/100 mm ones. Any suggestions ? Not wanting to upgrade anything else as just, just want to make sure I am comfortable on the bike and get some miles done on it. Thinking the shoes and shorter stem will achieve this. Any thoughts fellow Triban Owners ?

Shoes say they are compatible with SPD-SL/Look Keo/Delta so as long as you don't get SPD pedals then they should be fine.
Sounds like getting a shorter stem might be a good idea, you can also flip the stem and this reduces the reach a bit I believe. Essentially you take the stem off then put it on flipped 180 degrees so it angles up rather than down/horizontal bringing the bars up a bit. Also worth checking you don't have the seat set too far back as that would also increase the distance to the shifters. From what I've read when you are on the seat with feet on the pedals at 3 and 9 oclock imagine you had a piece of string hanging from your knee, this should pass through the middle of the pedal.

Hi Tones.
Those shoes will work with road pedals such as Shimano SPD-SL, look etc, basically the 3 screw cleat road types but not with 2 bolt MTB style pedals such as Shimano SPD, crank bros etc.
Yes changing the stem is the easiest, cheapest and most sensible way to reduce reach, if you can get to a decathlon with the bike I'd have thought they'd let you try a few out by riding around the store, it's a 1 minute job to swap stems over.

Cheers gents, did not think of flipping the stem and will also check the seat. Think it does need to come forward a little as I find myself pushing back to get comfortable on the seat, was not sure if this was due to me reaching forward too much. Will have a tinker and see if it makes a difference if not a trip to decathlon is needed. Wish I had mentioned it instore at the time and they might of swapped it over for a shorter one.
Any suggestions on the peddles then ? Not knowing anything about them, what is the difference between SPD-SL & Look or is it just brand ?

Those are the ones my 2 mates suggested as they both have them and have said they are perfect. Will check them out.
Is it correct that you should buy a slightly smaller size shoe than normal so its nice and tight ?

You do want them to be tight, but different manufacturers have their own ideas on sizing, much like normal shoes. I bought mine from Decathlon so was able to get the right size no problem.

That I didn't know. I always assumed Look Keo was compatible with SPD-SL. Interesting. Whether you'd want to mix cleats and pedals is another story as there's bound to be mm variations.

Is it correct that you should buy a slightly smaller size shoe than normal so its nice and tight ? Here are another make of Look Keo style pedals. Few of us use it on TOC and I personally can recommend them. Very good. On getting smaller size shoes. I'd say no. You want comfortable fitting shoes that are of course not loose. If you start doing any serious miles, you'll put alot of strain on your feet and if they are to tight, you'll get numbness in your feet. My suggestion, as it's such a personal thing, go into your preferred retailer and try on for size. As O says, every manufactures sizing is different.

Ok not tight but certainly snug! You don't want your feet moving around too much in the shoe.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, payday next week so if those shoes are still available I will grab some. Seems silly not to considering the other ones I was looking at in Decathlon are the same price and no where near as good I am guessing.
